Probably not....

If you say you like puppies -- somebody will tell you they're allergic to dogs.

If you say you like rainbows -- somebody will say that just means it's raining out --- or you're gay....

If you say you like orgasms -- they'll tell you those are sinful and you're going to hell.

If you say you love your mother - they'll say you have an Oedipus complex.

Best bet -- call them an asshole....

You might just be right...

After all -- the probability is they're going to prove you right....

Besides -- everyone has one....

Except - we'll hear dissent ---

from those folks with colostomy bags....

....

Ya can't fucking win...

Lotta folks with colostomy bags have functioning assholes, they just don't pass shit through them anymore. I'm pretty sure they're not anti-assholes either. Big Grin

RE: Overly personal pronouns?
Lucky this person speaks english, and not Thai for example where even hellos and thankyous are gender specific.

Some people need to get over them selves or suffer real problems.

If a parent told me I could not say he or she, I'd tell them to find another teacher. I have no time for stupidity.

NOTE: Member, Tomasia uses this site to slander other individuals. He then later proclaims it a joke, but not in public.
I will call him a liar and a dog here and now.

Kind of like using the royal "We" even when I'm referring only to myself. And if the gender of the individual is either unknown or referring to a generic individual I don't see any other option. I've written and reviewed many academic papers who make liberal use of "they". Sometimes it's the only word that makes sense.

It's easy to do when writing, but harder to do in conversation.

When talking directly to the person: "you" works fine. When talking about the person, as in evaluating the person's ideas or technique in a classroom discussion--which my professor friend is going to be doing--degree of difficulty to avoid hers/his, him/her, and she/he increases.

If I'm referring to a specific person of know gender, I'm going to use the gender specific pronoun.
How is that a problem? Consider

If it offends that person that I understand grammar, too fucking bad.

I agree with Clyde, English sux; it's such an unregulated hodgepodge of craptasticness that trying to get it to make sense and be current is nearly futile.

The silliness, to me, is tilting at a windmill a thousand years old.
