I read your thread title and thought of Grace Slick first before Airplane or Starship or whatever they were flying at the time. They were the real psychedelic band of my youth, them and ELP.

Bummer about Paul, he was a great guitarist who could hold a groove. Seemed like a good guy all-around. I still want his rhythm crunch-tone from "Jane". That shit rocked.
