Peace
First off, I just want to mention that I am a Christian. My reason for becoming a member of this forum is to find out why so many people have decided to lose hope in God. I would also like to learn more about how people have learned to cope with life after their choice was made. Thank you.

Welcome to TTA.

I think there are many here who can answer any specific questions you have.

Please note that there are many members here who did not "lose hope in God" (or gods or goddesses) because they had none in the first place.

We can explain that too, if you like.

Nice to meet you.

Welcome! Big Grin

You'll find that most of us here don't accept the existence of gods/supreme beings simply because of insufficient evidence. Nothing shown thus far has been compelling enough to be convincing.

Life without gods staring you down is easy--don't be a dick. Morality does not come from an ancient book, it comes with the whole social-animal package.

Humans are not anything all that special in this universe, nor are we inherently evil creatures.

We're just the universe beginning to understand itself Smile

Sigh.

Welcome. Another starry eyed God-botherer about to have a bruising encounter with reality I suspect. If you can retain your sense of humour you may do well... otherwise... not so much.

Nice to meet you, DLJ. I firmly believe that man will always find themselves worship something. So I would like to know how the atheist spends their time every day. Prior to realizing that there is a God in my life, I found myself addicted to pornography & demeaning women, being angry/stressed all the time, spending my free time buying car parts for hot rods, worrying about physical/emotional pain, etc. Are atheists generally happy with their lives?

RE: Peace
Why do you assume that people have “lost hope” in G-d? I mean, let’s cut the crap, Christianity tries to be a one size fits all religion, but there are a lot of people out there who have been extremely mishandled and are emotionally damaged as a result. They haven’t lost hope. They’ve stood up for themselves and have abandoned the abusive relationship they had with their church.

And like DLJ said, some people here have been atheist all their lives; there was never any “hope” to lose. Christianity just failed to market itself in a way that was appealing to everyone.

It’s one thing if you want to believe in G-d because it makes you happy and it gives you a sense of peace and connection to a higher power. Maybe this belief fills in some of the blank spaces from mysteries about life, death and the universe. It’s another thing to believe that everyone needs to share your belief system, and then to actively badger people who don’t accept Christianity’s thin, meaningless explanations.

I myself am quite happy, despite my anxiety attacks (which are almost a direct result of my belief).

Happier even, than when I believed ^^

I would never attempt to speak for all atheists but for me demeaning women are my favourite type of women.

With my Moderator hat on, can I suggest that you ask your questions in other sections of the forum. In the introduction section we usually just stick to a 'get to know you' kinda thing. There's an Ask An Atheist section for further probing.

Cheers

Howdy!

In regards to your questions, start a thread and ask away. Be prepared though, you will get answers. Lots of answers.

RE: Peace
Welcome. I hope you enjoy your time here.

My life improved significantly in every aspect after I left Christianity, no coping strategies needed.
