Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches
(This is a 'Why is America so Weird?' rant)
I might upset some people (Americans) and this may get moved.

So I'm an Australian and I just found out that Americans call jam... jelly.
For the past 40 years I've thought that they actually were putting jelly on their
sandwiches, which really confused me as it seemed like a really strange thing to do
plus it would be really hard to spread. Not that jam and peanut butter isn't weird anyway.
But why do they do everything completely backward to the rest of the world?
It pains me listening to them pronounce herbs in cooking shows, saying A-Dee-Dis
instead of Add-E-Das or when they talk about the weather. idk, bloody weirdos!

Yup, we are weird. But from someone who has been to the factory, it is AHH-dee-dahs. (And yes, it makes me cringe when I hear people say Uh-DEE-duhs, too.)

But really, anyone who eats Vegemite sandwiches has some nerve calling us weirdos! Big Grin

I am an American.
Adidas - Uh-Dee-Duhs. I do not say "Ahh Dee Dahss," for the same reason that I don't roll the r sound in burrito. That would be feckin weird m8 Tongue
Basil - Bay-Zill
herb - erb
Jam and jelly are not the same thing. Jam has more chunks, but not as much as preserves. Also, jam generally tastes better than jelly.

If we came from dust, then why is there still dust?

Jelly is generally made with just the juice, Jam uses the pulp and juice, preserves are just the pulp. All have pectin or gelatin added to thicken.

Um what you call Jello, is what we call Jelly.
And you call scones biscuits, so we say scones and jam, you say biscuits and jelly???
Okay so...
The guy that started Adidas was called Adolf Dasler, his nickname was Adi (rhymes with baddy)
He called his company Adi-Das.

Jello is a brand name. Non-branded would be gelatin dessert.

Scones and biscuits are not really the same thing.

Biscuit

Scone[Image: CC_alton-brown-scones-recipe_s4x3.jpg.re...6.462.jpeg]

Biscuits have flaky layers (like filo or puff) and are generally much softer than scones. Scones tend to have more of a crumb texture.
