RE: Piracy? What's Your Opinion?
Piracy is a politically loaded term. Bottom line is that the law and business models are outdated, access to cultural goods is a right at the same level as any other human right, and right now is being tossed under the rug for profit...

"Cultural goods"? Hahahahahahaha.

maybe it's lost in translation, I'm talking about this part of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights:

Quote:Article 15
1. The States Parties to the present Covenant recognize the right of everyone:
(a) To take part in cultural life;
(b) To enjoy the benefits of scientific progress and its applications;

Artistic and technological works are the products of peoples' labors - no one has a right to them.

The sharing of scientific knowledge and taking part in cultural life are not synonymous with appropriating others' property.

So we should abolish the institution of patent rights?

If an artist produces a painting, the original should be sold for exactly the same amount of money as one would pay for one of the million replicas cheaply made of it?

That's a really good incentive for anyone to sacrifice for brilliance.....

Well goddammit, I can't either...

I think I'm ultimately disagreeing, which is usually a bad idea with you, but bring it, bitch.

Wait, I did agree with your original assessment that it is theft, but then you lost me.
