Honestly, I'm doubtful it will make it to the US, or that we would be alerted if it did and it were only an isolated case.

I'm not usually much of a conspiracy theorist, but I think it would be covered up if possible. There was very little on the news about last winter's horrific flu season. My hospital had to rent vents from others (according to our respiratory therapists) and people in their 20/30s were dying in smaller hospitals waiting on transfer to ICUs that utilized rotoprone beds and ECMO. At one point we were putting minor complaints in chairs because we ran out of hall beds in our ED primarily due to the huge influx of influenza patients - and I worked at one of the largest EDs in the US. We also had a problem with a lot of false negative flu tests, and ran out of swabs, leading to inaccurate data for reporting. The influenza patients necessitating fluid boluses contributed to a normal saline shortage nationwide from the demand and a spike in prices. We actually had to stop priming our trauma tubing (we would normally have a Level I infuser primed and ready to go at all times) to conserve supplies.

Why would it be covered up when pharmaceutical companies can make millions by creating half arsed vaccines to protect people just like when the UK government bought a ton of tamiflu when bird flu was around and turns out it wasn't even effective.

Good point. And this is why I'm not a conspiracy theorist. Blush

Then they went to Atlanta, just move 'em all over the place why don't they?
I would think a good way to help contain an infection would be to try keeping the infected in as few places as possible.

CDC Chief has already said Ebola outbreak in US "possible" but highly unlikely it'd spread much if something did happen.

People have been freaking out once they learn I just got back from Africa. The biggest problem is that they think of Africa as a country instead of a massive continent comprised of numerous countries. It is bigger than the US, Europe, India, and China put together. What happens in a western African country doesn't mean people in an eastern African country will be immediately effected.

My Guess is that in 2 months from now. We will see its first appearance in the deep south of the US. Most likely Kentucky or Louisiana

This article just appeared in my inbox because I follow primate-related news on Science Daily.

Many in U.S. lack knowledge about Ebola, its transmission, poll finds

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/201...ceDaily%29

This section is similar to levels of education and religiosity:

Quote:The HSPH/SSRS poll found people with less education are more likely to be concerned about an outbreak in the U.S. (less than high school 50% vs. some college 36% vs. college grad or more 24%). People with less education are also more concerned they or their family will get sick with Ebola (less than high school 37% vs. some college 22% vs. college grad or more 14%). Perhaps related, those with less education are also less likely to be following the news about the Ebola outbreak in West Africa closely (total 63%; less than high school 57% and some college 62% vs. college grad or more 73%).
