RE: Podcast #118 - Clash From The Past
I know Seth used to be a believer "like" this guy, and says he obliviously made arguments to justify his believes "like" this guy. (I put “like” in quotes because I don't mean to say he had the exact same views as this guy) And from talking to various other theists I've dealt with many of these same acrobatics and illogical replies to legitimate questions or conversations.

I've always felt these people have to at least, to some degree, know they are bullshiting as they are doing it. I'm sure they still mostly believe their bullshit, but they have to still realize as they are saying it that they are pulling their bullshit out of their ass as they say it. I've always wanted to get inside one of their heads while they are doing it and know if they actually believe the words coming out of their mouths, or are they just so focused on winning or being right that it doesn't matter what or how they say what they say, as long as they hold on to their core belief.

I feel like they have to know they are full of shit while they say it…right?

IMHO, this podcast needed a "facepalm disclaimer"....I'm pretty sure my forehead is about to cave in from the nuclear grade facepalms I have been giving myself....

I have to applaud Seth's patience in dealing with this bullshitter.
Especially infuriating is "more written about Jesus than Nero..." crapola. Nothing written about this amazing, world-changing resurrection ... for two generations. Almost 40 years before anybody bothered to tell stories about it on paper. Lots written since? So ... volume makes it better evidence?

RE: Podcast #118 - Clash From The Past
I noticed that a few times David was bragging that he did not have any kind of degree and didn't attend seminary. He even stated that enhanced his credibility. How does being ignorant enhance ones credibility? What a terrible anti intellectual attitude to have. When Seth brought up if Jesus actually existed, David dismissed it saying there was more evidence for Jesus than any other historical figure of the time. How would he know? Did he study? No!

Then David kept saying that only Christianity had certain features no other religion had. Again how does he know. Did he study those other religions? No of course not. He doesn't go for all that book learning. He might learn something that would cause him to think.

How does he know? I think we all know the answer to that question. Every thing he knows he knows in his heart. Can't argue with knowing something in your heart. You can't say I don't know it in my heart, there for it's true, regardless of wither or not it contradicts what someone else knows in their heart. Unless what I know in my heart is that what 'you know in your heart' is not true. But you can't saw the same in reverse, because I already know in my heart you are wrong. Or if you came by what you know not by your heart but by reason, education, or observations of reality, then what you know is not valid, because you cheated and looked at the real world and god doesn't want you to do that. God only wants you to know things if you don't have any reason to believe them.

Seth "How many Atheists do you know, David?"

David "uh.... Let's see... counting you?"

Seth "Yeah, counting me."

David "Uhm. One."

Sometimes I wonder what a conversation about religion/theology would be like between Seth and me.

Out of all the times we've talked... we've never discussed it.

David said, "you don't know me like I know me", later he described the behavior of someone with an addiction to pornography. I am 100% convinced that David has had an addiction to pornography and that's why he needs Jesus.
