Podcast #78 - The Bloody Bible

Best and worst of Ferdinand .....
Ferdinand: We don't really say 'theist' in Alabama. Here, you're either a Christian, or you're from Afghanistan and we fucking hate you.
Ferdinand: Everyone from British is so, like, fucking retarded.

RE: Podcast #78 - The Bloody Bible
Seth, thank you for such a comprehensive list of about 10% of the horrors in the Bible. Smile I was just digging up Deuteronomy about what God thinks is a reasonable way to get out of a rape rap in response to a horrifying news story about one Sean Banks who used the "Christian Mingle - find God's Choice for You" website to line up dates with women whom he then raped. My comment on the story was that Banks might well be God's Choice for these women since Deuteronomy tells us that a rapist can atone for his transgression by paying the fathers of the women he raped 50 shekels each, then as long as he marries them and never divorces them, he's home free. I suspect that despite possibly being God's choice for these women, Banks was probably not the women's first choice. Anyway, just after I finished that comment, this podcast brought up those same verses from Deuteronomy... so my conclusion? There is a God, but not the Christian one. Maybe he's not as all powerful as that, but just arranges co-incidents like this to undermine our faith in Yahweh! Smile Seriously though, this is a very useful podcast. I've been an atheist since about age 11 and have been arguing with religious people pretty frequently ever since then but I've never been able to read the Bible in a linear manner without falling asleep after a few pages. It is podcasts like yours and FreeThought Radio and books like Dan Barker's and yours which point me to the best arguments to counter the incredibly obvious (but somehow still credible to true believers) lie that the Bible is the basis for morality.
