Another excellent podcast. Seth, Dan Barker, and other ex-fundie activists who have seen the light and are now working against the dark side, far from having any reason to feel guilt, are heroes. I can remember the odd twinges of guilt when between ages 9 and 11, I was coming to realize that there was no hell, and that the religious stories I was learning in Sunday school were on a par with the Grimm's fairy tales that a few years earlier were terrifying me. My parents were pretty half-hearted in their efforts to propagate the faith they had been born to. I can't imagine the horror of being told every day by earnest parents that my eternal life was under the absolute control of an arbitrary, vicious, yet somehow loving God who was watching and judging my every move and thought. It is a testament to the resilience of the intellect of the small minority of people who manage to escape fundamentalist indoctrination that some are able to take such a momentous step toward reclaiming their suppressed humanity.
