RE: Poets' Corner
A long time ago I started a thread on death penalty. It drowned in arguments going around in circles. My new policy: I summarize all my arguments in a poem, as succinctly as I can, and save a lot of effort by not repeating it over and over in a thread. It's out there and some will like it and some won't and it won't make any difference in the long run. However, I will have the satisfaction of having stated my opinion with economy and, maybe, style.

RE: Poets' Corner
Euthenasia

I killed a child once:
its small, fragile body
convulsing, in helpless agony,
in the middle of the night.

It was the hardest
I ever had to do:
plastic bag over the head,
pillow over tiny body…

tears soaking my face,
resolute till the end,
until the struggle stopped
and, finally, she was dead.

It was ‘only’ a cat
but I loved it like a child,
loved it enough
to end its pointless suffering.

While most of us would
end the agony
of those we love,
and would want the help
when finally we'll need it --

our rulers say you can’t be
merciful to humans -
only to animals,…
they warn about abuse,
criminal negligence.

They fear exceptions,
they are afraid to think, to decide,
they feel safe with zero tolerance:
the hallmark of the craven
and the incompetent.

So what happened to all the poets on TTA?

Have gone into hibernation for winter?

Lost their nerve to challenge the status quo?

That would be said, indeed.

Undecided Sorry, Zat...because I hope to one day publish (which admittedly requires a *ton* of shit-getting-together) I don't post publicly or electronically....

I do have one piece that was published in a literary review....suppose I could consider posting it....but.....hmmm....

RE: Poets' Corner

Youthful Ambition.

You reek of lonely, heartfelt sorrows,

washed out by bountiful tomorrows.

You claim the future’s yours to take;

with friends to lavish, foes to break.

That bed has lust-filled tales to tell,

devoid of loves’ embracing shell.

You know these 'hardships' soon will fade

when power and money serenade

those nights so crammed with strained ambition,

and days of youthful superstition.

You strive for wealth, you strive for love,

in longings soaring high above

the reach of any mortal soul.

You know the score, your final goal:-

You’re high on rocks above the land,

We are but pebbles on the sand.

RE: Poets' Corner
Memories.

Jumbled and hazy.
Some funny, some crazy.
Fast paced and lazy.
Just a few memories that make me.

A few have gave a light hearted touch.
Whilst others... just seem to much...
And at the heart, at the crux
Is the reason, the person and why we take so much.

The feelings they give me, echo the days before.
Although in my head that day seems an eternity and more.
The more days I look back on, the more life seems to quickly slip and fade through night and day.
And I awaken each morning... a new person, a new way.

I take them everywhere I go, there can be only numbing.
But no matter how far you go, there is no running.
For these are the things that are your becoming.

You're never going to say the things you want to say.
The things you want to change will usually stay that way
The promises you break outweigh the ones you keep.
Paint upon the wall for the hundredth time.

Beautiful.

RE: Poets' Corner
I'm twenty-nine
An I'm too old to play hide-and-seek with Jesus Christ
I'm alive and doing fine
And the whiskey, books, and movies still appease us
They please us

I recall when I was five
When God was still alive
And never had to grow old, sick, and die
But the scythe of Father Time
Cut aside the feeble twine
That tied up tight and battened down my mind

Gen'ral Vulture finds it droll
To hide inside his grassy knoll
For those that fall to cannonade
Are into tasty dishes made
