RE: Poets' Corner
I live in a magic land

I live in a magic land
populated by strange creatures,
with their myopic, distorted vision
and other fascinating features.

They are somnabulists,
who wander through a foreboding forest,
and perceive goblins as real
while bouncing off tree trunks
in their path.

If you observed them
from afar, with objective lenses,
you would think them insane
or drugged or hypnotized...

...close up, you can't help but accept
that they are victims
of their evolution,
with no hope for salvation
from their tragic, undeserved damnation.

populated by strange creatures,
with a distorted vision
of what is important.

They are somnabulists,

in their path.

you would think them insane
or drugged or hypnotized...

that they are victims
of their evolution,
without hope for resolution
of their tragic, undeserved damnation.

And then there are those of us who just respond, "Play with me."

RE: Poets' Corner
I hate god

I hate god,
I don't believe in the bastard
but I hate him anyway,
for blasting away
at the hapless victims
of his 'intelligent' design.

We did not deserve this:
falling prey to predation:
what we do to each other
and to all creations
on this magnificent planet.

Since I could not touch him,
even if existed,
I transfer my ire
to those who pretend
to speak in his name.

Amen.

RE: Poets' Corner
1)

Pilgrims, bowed and in tears
Asked god to allay all their fears.
To worship they went
With prayers and lament
But all of it fell on deaf ears.

2)

A Christian a Moslem and Jew
Argued 'bout who's God was true.
They yelled and they screamed
And all three blasphemed
With no God to insult in my view.

Throughout history conversions happen at the point of a sword, deconversions at the point of a pen - FC

I am quite sure now that often, very often, in matters concerning religion and politics a man's reasoning powers are not above the monkey's. - Mark Twain in Eruption

RE: Poets' Corner
Experience

When I was young,
I told my Mother:
“do not try to save me,
let me make my mistake,
learn from it, grow from it,
become a better person
from my own experience”.

She looked at me sadly,
with a now familiar resignation,
knowing that I had to do it,
make my mistakes
in my own bumbling way.

She only said:
“I have been there
where you are now,
I know the answers,
I could save you
so much heartache,
lost years,
squandered life”

But I was cocky,
so sure of myself,
would not take her advice,
had a world to conquer,
show them who I was,
what I could do.

Now, sixty years later
I find myself in her shoes,
trying to tell young ones:
the world is a mirage
and, if you try
walking on thin clouds
supported by nothing but confidence,
you'll come crashing down,
usually when it is too late.

And it is the way it’s been
for countless generations –
by the time you have the answers
none want to hear
your senile trepidations.

RE: Poets' Corner
Here is an updated and expanded version of my "I hate god" poem.

I changed the name to make it clear what it is about.

Predation

I hate god,
I don't believe in the bastard
but I hate him anyway,
for blasting away
at the hapless victims
of his 'intelligent' design.

Eat or be eaten,
that’s the commandment,
obeyed by all of his creatures:
the lion tears the throat of the zebra,
preying mantis munches on butteflies,
humans, on top of the food chain
kill, use, torture them all,
including their own kind.

We did not deserve this:
falling prey to predation:
what we do to each other
and to all creations
on this magnificent planet.

Since I could not touch him,
even if existed,
I transfer my ire
to those who pretend
to speak in his name.

Amen.

RE: Poets' Corner
Thanks for reinvigorating this thread old man. There's some really good poetry happening here. Thumbsup
...
I'm tempted to show up to the next local Busboy's and Poet's Poetry Slam and do some readings. ... Proper attribution goes without saying.

RE: Poets' Corner
Pandora

The feeling of futility
fills my mind with soul-crushing weight,
I hope for early senility
to put me on the narrow and straight
path to a tolerable peace of mind
where I don't suffer
for being unable to communicate
with my own kind
who don't believe I have the answers,
who don't want to become partners
in uncovering the truth
of the human condition
in a simple rendition
of causes and effects,
of facts, principles and logical deduction,
that could, ultimately, lead to a solution,
so I become Sisyphus and Cassandra...
...that is how is born
cursed, tragic Pandora.
