RE: Poets' Corner
Not poetry, per se, but a recent lyric I wrote:

The Tunnel

I saw Hope in the rear-view mirror,
standing on the side of the road
as I sped away into the future
shedding her heavy load.
Ahead of me a tunnel's maw
looming wide and black --
speeding forward angrily,
refusing to look back any more.

There ain't no point in having
faith in hope
for me.

Plunging into the darkness,
giving it a big embrace,
the light behind me a pinpoint now --
no way to mark my place.
Senses sharpened by darkness,
I can see myself once again.
He's ahead of me and gaining.
Neither of us knows the end.

There ain't no point in having
faith in hope
for me.

I've got no right to expectations --
I've got no claim upon your heart --
Hope's a luxury I can't afford
because I have no say in who we are,
or what we'll be.

I have to learn to live without her --
maybe she'll find her way home.
It don't matter if she does or not,
I'll just come out of the tunnel alone.
Restless flight, and endless night,
well, that might just be my road --
but I'll travel it without Hope
now that I've shed her load.

Hope won't wait
at the roadside, or
at the tunnel's end.
I know for a fact that I'll be
alone and driving into the blue
once again.

There ain't no point in
having faith in Hope
for me
any more.

RE: Poets' Corner
It's been ages since I've written anything so I figured eh I might as well share it here

In my garden there are gnomes and angels
there are trolls and gargoyles
there's a demon or two.
Beds of poppies growing, no one taller than another
there are fluffy little bunnies
and of course there's always you.
Running, playing, falling
singing, laughing, weeping
days go by uncounted and the night time's just the same.
Everyone is welcome
no one cast away
still most who show up leave out the way they came.

Seasons come and seasons go
but my garden's always spinning
the one thing you can count on is the ever falling rain.
Yellow ovals, oblong blues, little white drops
distorting my vision and clouding my ambitions
but blocking out the pain.

In my garden there are lush green paths
there are dense thorny thickets
but I know my way through.
Lovely little water lilies
evergreen ivies climbing trees
and then of course there's always you.
Swing with me a while
we can listen to the birds call
we can keep each other warm.
Swing with me forever
we can count up every flower
we can weather every storm.

Swing with me a while, we can listen to the birds call, we can keep each other warm.
Swing with me forever, we can count up every flower, we can weather every storm.

RE: Poets' Corner
Ok, a little background here. My mom loves to play Mahjong, which is a Chinese domino character matching game, on her computer, when she completes it in cute singing voices the game end with "You win, Win, WIN WIN"..... She will often call me for me to answer my pone and have that the first thing I hear. It's simply fun and silly and bonds us together. I love that fun silly stuff.

And for those old enough Hoboken for a long time got a bad rep just like Detroit still does. And the "Hoboken" part is my reference to a small town my mom likes to shop in which is not my favorite place to go. But of course, mom needs something you do it.

And any fan of Bugs Bunny knows the cartoon where he helps the Penguin get to the South Pole. Now without further a Deux.

"Hoboken, Mahjong Part Deux", (AKA Brian James Rational Poet on FB and @Brianrrs37 on twitter)

There is a small town

North of my mom

She likes to shop

I hate to go

One lane each way

Mom and pop signs

Mismatched in size

Heavy traffic, hardly aesthetic

"Take me there"

I roll my eyes

To understand

Here's the inside

Twas an old toon

Sappy and cute

Bugs stumbled on

A lost penguin's persuit

"Where is your home"

Bugs did not know

Consulted an encylopedia

And what do you know

"SOUTH POLE!"

Bugs discovered

To his horror

Lots of ground to be covered

But dutifully so

He made the trek

Trudged the penguin

To his homestead

But upon arrival

The penguin did cry

In the form of ice cubes

"What now?" Bugs inquired

The penguin produced

A circus flyer

"Hoboken NJ"

Preforming was his real desire

So now you know

What's in my head

"Take me there"

When she asks.

"Hoboken, I'm dying"

To borrow Bug's line

I'll take you for jellybeans

Anytime

Jellybeans?

Not in the toon

Is it about Reagan

NO, nothing to do

Nothing to do

With anything at all

But to get a smile

Out of my mom
(end)

Beautiful poem. I'm sure that it is much appreciated by the person being asked to swing with you forever.
