He fired 7 shots and missed twice. That's right, he missed twice from a foot away.

One bullet went through the driver's seat into the back seat where a four year old was seated. That apparently is also okay, hence the acquittal on the reckless discharge charge.

Just gonna leave this here.

The officer was clearly out of his depth...

I'd tend to agree with this. No appropriately-trained officer should perceive the need to fire seven rounds at point blank range at a single (as yet actively unarmed) suspect. Particularly with a 4-year-old child in near proximity (a couple of feet away in the vehicle's back seat) plus an innocent person in the passenger's seat immediately adjacent to the suspect.

As two of the shots didn't even (unbelievingly!) hit the suspect, it was only by chance that the child and/or her mother weren't wounded or killed.

The officer even twice admitted to being "fucking nervous". It's now obvious that he should never have been granted a firearms license—or in fact a job as an LEO.

And I agree that his acquittal of all charges was a total miscarriage of justice. Would this have ended so tragically if the driver had been Caucasian? I'm betting not. Hopefully this arsehole cop will carry the psychological burden of his true guilt with him for the rest of his life—flipping burgers at McDonalds for a job.

Not a chance. He will still be a cop.

Not to burst any bubbles, but that's never been more than a slogan.
Yes, even in America.

Article 7 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) states that "All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law."

There is nothing in that about police officers getting special privileges/defences not available to anyone else.

The USA reresentative at the United Nations voted for the UDHR in 1948.

FUCK, what an incompetent idiot. 2 out of 7 at point blank? This alone should have disqualified him from becoming a cop in the first place: because he cant aim for shit.

This story is so repugnant on so many levels, it almost physically makes me sick. Censored

On top of being shot for being black, it seems also that it is illegal for a black person to own a firearm.

NONE of this verdict makes one lick of sense to me.

If that guy was going to ambush the cop with a gun, why fucking even waste the time to announce it? He had a legal permit for it.

That and why the fuck would he risk the lives of his family in the back seat, especially the kid?

That verdict is basically saying shoot first is default training and all the cop has to do is merely "think" they are in danger. It isn't that cops are bad, but our collective mindset as a nation has created paranoia between society and cops. I can tell you which entity has done the most damage in selling that fear.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't help seeing some parallels here with the Catholic Church sex abuse scandals.
Priest gets caught abusing kids, gets booted out of the parish -- only to be installed at some other parish, and put in charge of kids again.

This is what happens when you have institutions that interact intensively with the public, but which are closed to public scrutiny.
