RE: Pope Benedict Steps Down Fulfilling The Malachy Prophecy
The prophesy of St. Malachy is obvoiously a forgery. All the popes preceding the supposed "rediscovery" had specific statements. All the ones after were general, and could be applied to anyone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prophecy_of_the_Popes All the later ones were very general.
(St.) Bernard of Clairvaux wrote his biography, and never mentioned it. Most of all, "prophesy" is not telling the future, no matter how often or loud that fundie fallacy is repeated. Soothsaying and divination were forbidden in Hebrew culture. A prophet was someone sent to the people of their own day, at least in the Old Testament. For every one that is now found to tell the future, there are ten that did not. It's selective post hoc interpretation. ALL the apocalyptic literature was wrong, including the views of Saul of Tarsus and even Jebus himself that the endtimes were upon them. The early Jews in the Way cult of Judaism, (Christians) were shocked that the world did not end when Jerusalem was destroyed and burned after the Bar Kochba revolt in the 133's CE. So they had to punt, and cook up an explanation. That explanation is why the church developed, as they had to cook up reasons to keep the cult going, and a reason to sell it to the masses. The sell job continues. Any church that has to hire a Fox News PR expert is in BIG trouble. Insufferable know-it-all. Apocalypse : pretty soon / Apprentice woologist in training.
