Possible anti-aging drug discovered
Thought you all might find this interesting. Found it on freerepublic.com. I like to go there because a lot of science articles get posted there. Seems some scientists have discovered a drug that reverses aging or at least does so in mice. Developed in order to give Astronauts protection from DNA damage from radiation on long missions such as to Mars. According to the article in the Daily Mail, it may be in Human trials within 6 months. If it is true it will be wonderful but also mean we'll probably need to find a new planet to move all the excess people to. Good problem to have I guess.

I'm going to link both to the freerepublic post in case anyone wishes to read all the comments by the religious nuts over there. I'll also give the direct link to the article for those who want to avoid the comments of all the religious nuts over there.

I use to frequent this site but don't go there much any more because it is dripping with anti-science comments from the lost ones that frequent that site.

I don't see what the drug is called but I think it's probably Nicotinamide riboside. It's a unique form of Niacin that was discovered in 2012. It raises the NAD levels.

Interesting. I've read about Telomerase and it's role in cell division but I haven't heard of this other chemical. I hope it's true. I'd like to be a part of the trials. I bet some people would pay heap big wampum to be a part of those trials. Or better yet wait until some other suckers try it first to make sure it is safe.

On a side note, what age would you all like to go back to if it were possible? I think 25 would be about perfect.

When my son was 4 years old I was telling him that kids his age would probably live to be well over 100 with all the medical advancements that would be made during his lifetime. A short time later my 89 year old Grandmother came for a visit and he told her he was going to be able to live to 120 but that it was too late for her.

RE: Possible anti-aging drug discovered
Interesting topic—thanks for the links. (Too late for me though LOL.)

Unfortunately, these sorts of amazing, purported long-life drug trials pop up every decade or so, and ultimately never pan out as proposed. As they say, mice are not human beings. Nor are pigs and nor are monkeys.

I couldn't resist posting a couple of the inevitable religious nutters' responses from you first link...

"Well, since I know there is an Afterlife (NDE and other evidence) I would have to be insane to remain alive."

"Eternal life offered by anyone other than Christ is a satanic deception and is a guarantee of eternal torment."

I'm a creationist... I believe that man created God.

You can buy it online. It's not cheap, about $32 US dollars for a month's supply.
I already take it. It seems to make me able to work out harder and sleep better but it's hard to separate what might be placebo effect from what might be really happening. Several studies have shown that it seems to gets into the mitochondria and raise the NAD levels. I swear I really have more energy, I really do. But it has to be Nicotinamide Riboside not regular niacin. I buy it from Amazon.

Somehow I doubt it stops aging. I think it may slow it down, but what do I know. The studies so far show that it's safe for humans with no adverse side effects.

Here's what I use.

It's really, really bad over there. I had to stop because my blood would boil every time. "I'd have to be insane to remain alive" pretty much says all you need to know about them.

Aw shit..

That's nothing new.

They've had an effective anti-aging drug for centuries. It takes decades off with just one application..

But, unfortunately - it doesn't work on the user.

Alcohol.

It works on the woman at the other end of the bar.

When you take it, she looks 20 years younger.. .

Sinclair likes to patent stuff to make money. He patented nicotinamide riboside and charges a fortune for it. I just supplement nicotinamide and d-ribose and let the gut figure out how to put them together. I take all sorta stuff to keep the little mitochondria happy.

I used to frequent that site, but it is intolerable to me now, they used to have protected threads for the various religious nuts over there, I don't even know what they're doing now, the whole site is a religious forum with right-wing politics as a focus.
