Doctorx,

All caps don't make your opinion suck less.

Religion, rather than acting as a symbol of truth or justice, merely acts as a symbol of human gullibility and stupidity. Surely no race of beings with any real intelligence would concoct such drivel.

Now you're omniscient and see inside his head. Good job, son! As for Vosur's comment about "as a scientist, he should know better than to accept anecdotal evidence," it's HIS bloody anecdotal experience. Why do you deny the human condition to have such experiences just because you missed out or denied your experience(s)?

Near Death Experiences can be induced with drugs and neural probes in the brain. Those who experience NDE reflect each person's cultural and religious background. Hindus see a Hindu heaven and afterlife, Muslims see their version and Christian's see Jesus and the western ideal of the afterlife. Other people from Native Americans to Africans have their own heaven and that 's what they see in a NDE. So are there a whole bunch of heavens and gods? Doesn't it strike you as odd that NDE's reflect their environmental religions? Those cultural memories imbedded in our brains are released by a chemical reaction during incredible brain stress.

Ketamine is one of the drugs that can induce NDE's there are others as well.

You should read the book Hallucinations by Oliver Sacks.

Shakespeare Insult 13 – Henry IV Part 1
“That trunk of humours, that bolting-hutch of beastliness, that swollen parcel of dropsies, that huge bombard of sack, that stuffed cloak-bag of guts, that reverend vice, that grey Iniquity, that father ruffian, that vanity in years?”

RE: Proof of Heaven.
The Esquire piece on the subject is now free to read. It's a good bit of investigative reporting:

RE: Proof of Heaven.
Interesting thought - everyone who has a near death experience like this always seems to go to "heaven". Statistically speaking, there has to be someone who went to "hell", since any number of transgressions can land you in the burner, including reasonable doubt.

Has anyone ever described their near death experience as going to hell?
