?

Which? Orion or Valkyrie ?

Orion is something from research in the 1960's.

Valkyrie is all theoretical paper work.

I'd gladly take a sleeper compartment. Wake me up when we get there!

.... I kinda share your enthusiasm, but I think I'll hold off until we learn how to engineer high tech to last a thousand years. I want my alarm clock to still be working by then.

Wonder how long it will take before we can go there. Tongue

But as if to knock me down, reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch, cut me into little pieces

Who's up for building an old "Boom! Boom!" Nuclear pulse Orion?

A million ton or so ship should have both the 'Oomph!' to get up and go plus the space to stretch out and relax on the way.

Thumbsup

Edit: Also.... look up "Valkyrei" the actual hypothetical ship work which was thence depicted in 'Avatar' the movie.

I believe he idea comes from Jerry Pournelle's science fiction to begin with.
Yep, Footfall. Niven and Pournelle, please.

Right. What we really want to see is a Minshara-class planet.

Ah! *Nods* Though Niven and Pournell are 'borrowing' real science. Look up the TED talk with Dyson's Son about Orion.

RE: Proxima Centauri Has a Terrestrial Planet
The only sad thing is when our grandchildren ask us what it was like when humans found another earth like planet. All we will say we we're to busy making arguing over trumps hand size to even know it happened.
