Being a jerk has nothing to do with lack of religion. There are people who'll tear into you or act superior just because you don't like their favourite band, for example. That's called insecurity and is pathetic to watch.

False superiority is still not rage though. Now, thinking about how much Xianity and all other mythologies (some much more than others) have held humankind back and how they have been crushing humanity's dignity for centuries does get to me, but it mostly makes me sad.

On the plus side, religion is drawing its last breaths (it's a vicious little cancer, so it might still take quite some time), so there's that. Of course, it makes the deluded all the more rabid, but that's just an added bonus.

Why is impossible for most, not all, atheists to respond to the answer of a Christian to a quetion without insults and ridicule?

If you ask someone if they think it's going to rain tomorrow and they say no, do you then say "What? WTF is wrong with you? Can't you see the clouds rolling in and feel the temperature change? How stupic an you be?"

You may disagree with a Christians answer and think it stupid but why do you have to go into a coniption fit?

I'd really like a serious answer to this question, not just another sarcastic, ridiculing and insulting answer.

Well damn, there goes my ammunition.

RE: Question?
This "question" from the grump who came on here today and said, as his introducton :
"Just in case there is anyone here that actually IS a thinking atheist (which to a guy like me sounds like an oxymoron, I'm going to tell you something that was written in the Bible over 2000 years ago and which many (not all, cuz all Christians dont care about Bible prophecy) Christians believe is going to happen this year.",
then said he was leaving, and now is back, whining, asking why we were rude to him, when HE started the mud slinging, AND lied about "prophesy is, AND about what "Christians believe" will happen tis year. I know a lot of them, and NOT ONE has said to me that they think the bat-shit crazy business of that supposed prophesy is going to happen this year.

You are going to be so happy when the "Rapture" occurs. There will be no Christians left on earth. All non-believers will have free reign to live their lives anyway society allows them to. I believe the Rapture is imminent, like before the end of the year, but whenever it comes you wont have to worry about us pesky Christians anymore. You can achieve Nirvana, Utopia, whatever. Right on Bucky boy. The dude is crazy, but at least he admits it. But, he also admits that everything he says is opinion based on his beliefs. Unlike you, Buckaroo, who says his opinions as fact and expects us to agree with whatever he says.

You know a lot of Christians that dont know or believe in prophecy? Great, I can show you millions that do. Does that make either of us right? All I can tell you is wait until the end of the year and when it doesnt happen, throw your bat-shit crazy party and make fun of the fool.

AH HA! You've stumbled on the answer. It works both ways. The only way this is going to be resolved is if we come to an understanding of each other. If not. We can look forward to more pointless bloodshed.

No
I fear you are right. We are going to see a lot of pointless bloodshed. What we are seeing today, all over the world, mostly ethnic or religious bloodshed, is going to increase every year, exponentially for the next seven years (DISCLAIMER: opinion.)

"Us" ? Who is "us"? You mean you. It doesn't matter who believs what. Millions or not. It's the ad populum fallacy, and you proved in one short afternoon that we know more about your cult than you do. I won't be throwing any parties over the likes of you. You are far too unimportant for that. YOU however WILL remember what a fool you have made of yourself, and then whined and cried and tried to make us look rude, when in fact YOU started it.

As much as the deluded would love to play the martyr card again, it's not gonna happen. Religion is dying a natural (though long overdue) death. No need to put it out of its misery by force.

And then there won't be "each other" anymore. There'll just be reason (and a few blind ones who refuse to see it, but you can't win them all). And that's what scares them the most. Not that they will "die" as martyrs, but that they'll become (even more than they already are) obsolete and laughable.
