Questions for atheists
Hi everybody! I am new here... I joined because I would really love some answers from you. I am writing a paper on worldviews and I have 8 questions to ask...I would really appreciate it if one of you could take the time to answer these!

1) what is prime reality? (the thing from which everything else comes)
Example: God
2) what is the nature of external reality?
Example: external reality is the universe which God created out of nothing.
3) what is a human being?
4) what happens at death?
5) why is it possible to know anything at all?
6) how do we know what is right and what is wrong?
7) what is the meaning of human history?
Example: history is a meaningful sequence of events that lead to God's will.
8) what person, life orienting core commitments are consistent with your worldview?

Thank you SO much to anyone who takes the time to answer these questions!

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.

1) Me of course.
2)WTF
3)A human is a primate in the genus Homo, known for it's intelligence and sexual dimorphism.
4)You die.
5)I don't "know."
6)We know what is correct and incorrect by examining evidence and drawing conclusion based on said evidence. We know what is moral and immoral by examining the benefits of an action towards individuals and a species in general. Generally, actions that are harmful to an individual, or a larger population of the species, is considered immoral. This makes perfect sense from an evolutionary point of view, as a species that kills itself often isn't likely to survive long enough to procreate.
7)The question itself is nonsensical and draws from the predisposition that the answer is God.
8)Stay away from guns unless playing Deus Ex.

RE: Questions for atheists
1) what is prime reality? (the thing from which everything else comes)
We don't know yet
2) what is the nature of external reality?
Phenomena as perceived by our senses. Phenomena beyond our senses can only be perceived indirectly.
3) what is a human being?
An animal that belongs to human genealogy. (there's more to it, but that's as basic as I can get)
4) what happens at death?
The body stops functioning and starts to decompose.
5) why is it possible to know anything at all?
Because our brain perceives and processes information, finding recurring patterns and saves and communicates them as what we call knowledge.
6) how do we know what is right and what is wrong?
Depends on the definition of right and wrong. In my opinion, by the progressive understanding of the consequences of one or a set of actions, those that lead to situations regarded as beneficial are right, those that lead to negative ones, are wrong.
7) what is the meaning of human history?
It has no meaning beyond the one we ascribe to it.
8) what person, life orienting core commitments are consistent with your worldview?
Haven't found one single person that matches that criteria yet.

RE: Questions for atheists
1) what is prime reality? (the thing from which everything else comes)
nature

2) what is the nature of external reality?
nature

3) what is a human being?
a species of primate

4) what happens at death?
the brain and the rest of the body cease to function

5) why is it possible to know anything at all?
Because we have a highly evolved brain

6) how do we know what is right and what is wrong?
social evolution - it is better for the survival of the species if we take care of ours

7) what is the meaning of human history?
history is the study of events passed, and we can learn a lot from it.

8) what person, life orienting core commitments are consistent with your worldview?
This probably varies greatly from person to person. For me it is the "golden rule", and I extend it to animals also. (In the case you don't know what the "golden rule" is, it is do unto others as you would have them do unto you)

Of course, not all atheists will answer these questions the same. Here are my answers:
1. My own observations. I think, therefore I am.
2. The external reality are those observations that have been validated by others.
3. I am, and others who are like me, who have the characteristics that we call homo sapiens.
4. Death is a permanent condition in which people no longer can do anything.
As for my own death, this is something I have not observed, and probably never will observe.
5. We observe, and therefore we know that we have observed something.
6. Since we have to live together with others, it makes sense to treat others
like you would like to be treated yourself. Most humans are also equipped
with compassion, which makes treating others like yourself easier.
7. It means different things to different people. For me, it provides lessons from which one can learn. But history does not have a purpose in itself.
8. not sure what you mean by that question.

I'm going to call it before it happens. This is a troll thread. Megan has the answer and wants to verify that anyone who answers otherwise doesn't (Example: God)

Good luck Megan. You are delusional and I'm not interested in helping you do anything but turn away from the immoral, dangerous lifestyle you seem to be living.

Nice job enforcing the stereotypes of asshole atheists who think anyone who disagrees with them is obviously lying. Angry
