RFC: Forum Dating
Please find herewith, from me, the above mentioned, a formal Request For Change.

So, like, y'know, I was chatting wiv sum Filosofy-knowing guy at a Meetup when he mentioned sum old dead thinker and for historical / cultural context I arksed if the thinker-dude wos before or after Darwin.

Cos, like, dat wud explain some of the crazier pro-god thinking. No wat I meen?

So it occurs to me that 1859 should be a new baseline for the start of a new era of knowledge.

Islam marks the year that Muhammad first took a school trip from Mecca to Medina,
Christendom marks the year that the Santa festival started
Thailand starts their calendar from the day that the Buddha attained parinibbāna.

I wonder then, why, oh why should we... we happy few... who have attained our own post-darwinian enlightenment, align ourselves to the supposed man-god's alleged-birth purported-year?

Mr DeepThought, I plead, I beg, I insist that for the good of the movement and all that is good in the world, please change the server date to the year ...

One Hundred and Fifty Five AD

(After Darwin)

Hence forth, all dates prior to year zero (1859 in the old language) will be refereed to as BD (Before Darwin)

Make it so.

Bowing

Christ no No

We've *got* a working calendar, thank you very much. I know it's traditional to break shit that's already working, especially if living in a third world former English colony, but this is going too far Angry Go break the banking system again if you gotta break shit.

We'll love you just the way you are

I like it DLJ, but for one thing.

Darwin was a theist for most of his life. He called himself a theist until 1879 when he declared himself agnostic. I have not read anywhere that he ever called himself atheist, but he in fact denied it.

I'm going to split hairs here and say the date should be as close as Darwin came to atheism which is 1879 as an agnostic.

Ah ha!

You missed a subtle difference between the theistic calendars and this one.

The others are in reverence of their idols.

The true date is in reverence of the publication of the knowledge that irrevocably changed science forever.

Strictly speaking, therefore, Darwin himself is irrelevant so the dates should be named:
After Origins and Before Origins

... but y'know... BO... that's somewhat odorous, methinks.

RE: RFC: Forum Dating
This may work in about 1000 years time but not now!

I would not want to go back and sound like we are back in the stone-age!

Now do we have a new set of holidays to play with!

Darwin day! Would be a given! But on what day??
Isaac Newton day. That's OK we would keep Christmas and I can have my two week winter brake intact!
However, to keep my gay friends happy we could have Quentin Crisp day on the odd years and Isaac on the even years! :-)

14 March Albert Einstein Not quite St Patrick's day but close to it!

So can you put in some other date and we can have time off work!
I will not except the new calendar until I know I am not loosing a day off!

So let me ask a simple question before I go off on a complete tangent?
Do we still keep the May and the Decembers as they are and the number of days remain the same! Or are we going to kill of all the old gods in the months?
