RE: RIP Chris Cornell
I purchsed and listened to Chris' last solo album "higher truth" over the weekend. Highly recommend it, some real good quality acoustic songs, and just pure vocals as well.

RE: RIP Chris Cornell
Has anybody heard if Kim or Ben or Matt have made any kind of statement yet? I'm curious if they've said anything about Chris' behavior or state of mind that night. Undecided

RE: RIP Chris Cornell
His wife made a statement regarding, she says he'd taken one too many of his anxiety meds, which she believes had contributed to his state of mind that night. (side effects can be sucidal thoughts etc)

RE: RIP Chris Cornell
Yeah, I'd seen where Vicky had made a statement. I guess the other members of Soundgarden haven't come out with anything yet. No big thing, obviously this is a difficult time for them and there's no rush on them giving their take on things.

A thought in regards to his wife saying she thought maybe he didn't know what he was doing, or wasn't in the right state of mind, or wouldn't have taken his life if it hadn't been for the medication... that doesn't explain why he had a carabiner with him. I can understand his maybe just having an exercise band with him on the road so he could workout in his room or whatnot, but I am not aware of any mundane use of a carabiner. That's climbing equipment. So it sure seems like he thought ahead to have that with him and that that speaks to it being intentional and not solely due to his anxiety meds. It's all just speculation at this point, but this was something someone had mentioned out there in the interwebz (about the carabiner) and it struck me as odd as well.

I suppose it depends on how big it was, but for what it's worth I have one on my keys, which I use to hold certain keys I use for work so I can take them off easier, as an example. You can use them for a lot of things generally, I know some people have them on bags and stuff like that.

May/may not be a big deal really, but thats sometimes to consider.

RE: RIP Chris Cornell
Oh wow, I'm a dumbass. Yeah, I should have actually looked up "carabiner" to see that it is one of those keyring thingies. I just never had heard of them referred to as carabiners. I honestly thought that Chris had wedged one of those "ratchety" thingies (I know, very technical description there Blush ) that climbers seem to use in there and that seemed like something really weird to just have on him. I can totally see him having a carabiner on him as a key ring or something. Can't believe I've never heard them called that before. Facepalm There's probably not even a ratchety thingy that climbers use and I could be way off. But I thought I'd seen stuff where climbers used something like a ratchet strap to pull themselves up? Huh

I'll just go sit down now. Shy

ETA: It seems like the carabiners that climbers use are a lot bigger than the ones I would use as keyrings, though. So not sure what kind Chris had on him.

Cornell has been a huge influence on me and my musical tastes. I first discovered him via Audioslave as a teen, but went back and found Sound Garden and Temple of the dog, and enjoyed some of his solo work.

Seemingly best known for the Bond theme "you know my name", from Casino Royale, he'll be missed by many, and mainly me.

I'm genuinely devastated by this news. Rest easy Chris Weeping

Correct me if I am wrong, I saw this in passing in the news, he committed suicide?

I want to be sure that is the news story I saw.

Yeah, Brian, they found him in his hotel room. It was ruled a suicide. Sad

I thought I got that right. I have the news on when I can, I was never a fan, but caught it in passing while paying attention to my on line posting.

But, it brings up a very important point that far too many in America sweep under the rug. Mental illness is NOT a class issue relegated to the poor.

This guy had far more than I do. But I know exactly how it feels to get to the point of wanting to call it quits. As far as I know health wise, I am fine. But that is far different than your brain. I hate that far too many think no broken bones means you can tough it up.

His fans will certainly miss him. But I can also tell you fearing judgment and self blame even when you know you haven't done anything wrong can be as crippling as a broken limb.

Kurt Cobane had everything too. Stuff like this makes me angry that anyone would piss on the poor or say "buck it up".
