Rainbow Radical Atheists-First Amendment Vandals
Browsing around I happened on something that caught my eye because it is in keeping with a chat theme here. Freedom of religion does not mean freedom from religion.
And low and behold, it's a "WOW!" moment. From Canada no less! Tongue

Freedom of Religion NOT Freedom from Religion
Radical Atheists-First Amendment Vandals

Timothy Birdnow Tuesday, May 5, 2009

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” First amendment to the Constitution of the United States, December 15, 1791

When Congress ratified this amendment to the Constitution, they did so with very specific goals. In much of Europe the nation states maintained state-sanctioned religions, religions that were either compulsory for the citizenry or were at the very least strongly encouraged through financial support via taxation and other assistance from the government. Consider Spain; when Ferdinand of Castille and Isabella of Aragon united their respective kingdoms on the Iberian peninsula into the first nation state-Spain-they completed the “Reconquista”, finally driving Islam from Europe and establishing a Catholic monarchy. In order to unite the Iberian kingdoms they decreed that Catholicism would be the official religion, and thus Moslems and Jews were forced to either convert or leave. (Full Article)

It boggles the mind how the teachings of Jesus, as prescribed by Paul who wrote 2/3rds of the New Testament and never actually met the living Yeshua/Joshua, would none the less claim Jesus said love one's neighbor as one's self and all the while there are conservatives, who define that term to mean first and foremost ultra-right wing Christian, who believe the freedom's guaranteed as inalienable rights in the American Constitution meant those to mean inevitable rights as prescribed by and for Christianity and Christians.

I mean seriously! Then again, errant contradictions in the Bible are everywhere. So perhaps what gives authors like Mr.Birdnow their purchase when they write something like this from north of our border is this dandy little reminder of the kind of Jesus he's talking about. The exclusivist "ism" type demi-god.

2 John 1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed.
