My question is how do you go about doing this when they will certainly be bombarded with religion by society on a daily basis, how do you combat that? Are you in the process of raising your child to be an atheist, or have you done it already? Is it even a question? Any thoughts, advice, or opinions would be appreciated.

I don't think it's possible to "raise a child to be atheist." Sam Harris said "Atheism has no content. Being an atheist is like being a non-astrologer. No one gets taught to be a non-astrologer. You just don't get convinced by astrology."

However, in the true spirit of secularism, I would suggest raising your children to be tolerant of other people's beliefs, and allow then to make up their own minds when they're old enough.

Yes, but teach them to apply logic and reason to everything even God/Gods

The atheist is a man who destroys the imaginary things which afflict the human race, and so leads men back to nature, to experience and to reason.

There's one one-star review for that book. The rebuttals to it are priceless.

You've said something similar before. What is it about Sam Harris that you don't like? Consider

Quote:First, I must say that the book did give me some insights into what problems we might expect. For example, how will we explain death, how should we handle other people's religious influence, religious expressions at school, etc. Another interesting chapter was the one describing how a couple with differing religious views (one catholic, one atheist) made it work.

Aside from that. I found the review funny.

Still awaiting your answer on what you don't like about Sam Harris.

Is it not clear that the mention of that name makes me projectile vomit uncontrollably or causes my head to explode? Why you wanna do me like that?!?!?!?!?!
