Facts don't matter when you're a "believer".

Their motivation is easy to explain- but it only really makes sense to the "believer".

It goes hand in hand with the doctrine that makes religion against abortion and birth control.

It's called "Being Right By Volume".

While not an official doctrine of any church or religious group - it's apparent in most all of them.

The idea being if you can convert people to YOUR way of thinking and believing -- or simply have more kids, being "born" into it (read "enforced acceptance) -- regardless of how ludicrous your religion's doctrine, you have more "true believers" than those smelly heathens down at that "Other" church -- then you're "Right" by virtue of sheer numbers.
