E - It's Easter week...this is my favorite holiday, it's just so special. Then a description of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, blah, blah, blah. The services Sunday will be so wonderful.

M - The most moving service I ever attended was one at Rick Warren's church in California. It was so meaningful.

E - Oh how wonderful. (With stars in her eyes and nearly breathless...) Was he saving people?

Me - (In my head.) Check please...
Before I got roped into all the happy, clappy god stuff, I took a break for a few minutes in hopes that the conversation topic would either change or stop completely.

My favorite holiday happens to be Thanksgiving. It used to be Christmas when I was a kid, but now it just seems to the time of year that I bleed money. Thanksgiving is a day of binge eating, which I enjoy once in a while.

Thanksgiving and Halloween are really the only holidays I enjoy.

See here they are the bruises some were self-inflicted and some showed up along the way. - JF

> With me, it's Easter, Thanksgiving and Xmas. These are the only times the whole family, plus out-of-state friends and relatives, get together for the annual feasts. I only buy small Xmas gifts for my nieces and nephews and something more expensive for my mother. My siblings and I no longer exchange Xmas presents. We're not really into the big Xmas shopping thing.

I know a lot of Christians who spell it that way, but they just can't spell...

Holy cow...he aged worse than I thought. Though I do think in general he aged well.

Need to think of a witty signature.

Heh, I don't want to see the other guy now! Poor guy though for drowning. Sad Also on the note of aged crushes...the original Pink Power Ranger from my youth seems to have aged well. Blush

And agreed Sad I saw a photo of myself as a Masters student while on a job interview on Monday at my alma mater and thought "I looked way better back then".

Edit: This morning's most common student email is a variation of, "Do we have class/why do we have class on Good Friday?"

Need to think of a witty signature.

Hug

Which is why I avoid pictures of myself like the plague (actually, it's not the aging part. Never liked myself, not when I was younger, not now, not... well, we'll see Rolleyes )

My landlady, on the other hand, has more pictures of herself (and mirrors!) around the house than I've ever seen. Frankly, I never quite understood keeping framed portraits of yourself around the house. If it were photographs from travels, with especially beautiful landscapes - maybe. But even then... Why do you need to be surrounded by your mug all the time? Even if you actually like yourself, I still find it offputtingly self-absorbed, to be honest...

Me, having never liked myself, I'm not *too* worried about getting old(er) (you can't lose looks you ain't never had Rolleyes And no, am not fishing for compliments) - I'm still hoping to reach this point, though:

"And oh when I'm old and wise
Bitter words mean little to me
Autumn winds will blow right through me

And oh, when I'm old and wise
Heavy words that tossed and blew me
Like autumn winds will blow right through me"

.. not sure if I'm getting there or advancing backwards, but...

(Tell your bitching students that our Saviour suffered today and so must they Big Grin )

(I also freaking HATE it when my publishers send me the even-stupider-than-the-book-itself annotations when I'm already finished with the book, literally and mentally. Fuck this fucking shit! Am in a crappy mood as it is, damn it! Censored )

Your landlady story reminded me...for about nine months I lived in an apartment whose landlord (creepy guy who lived in the basement) had installed mirrored walls in the living room and dining room. It was a strange and ugly living space. (and my bedroom didn't have heat--in Chicago in winter this was a problem)

RE: Ranting corner
Ish! I hope they weren't two-way mirrors for some freaky spying (and now I'm picturing a sneaky periscope rising silently and ominously from that basement Gasp )

I might've been to a Brazilian love motel (not at all like the ones in the States. At least the more expensive ones), with mirrors everywhere... including (most importantly!) on the ceiling.

Or maybe I just made it up. Drinking Beverage

Oh, but this reminds me (of course it does! Rolleyes )

Suppose I were to tell you that the meaning of dreams
Is not all that it seems and the ultimate truth is a lie.
And you are just a puppet who can dance on a string.
Do you feel anything?
Would you laugh? Would you care? Would you cry?

But the meaning of life is a mystery, how can anyone disagree?
And the music is a symphony which we play in a minor key.

I am a mirror. I am a mirror. Looking at me you see yourself
I am a mirror. I am a mirror. Every face is someone else.
Look at me smile and you're the clown. And if I dance you turn around.
Look in my eyes and see your tears until the music disappears.

So if you are confused and don't know which way to go.
You will certainly know. From the moment we're living we die.
And if it's all a crazy game you don't want to play
Tell me what you can say.
It's a joke. It's the truth. It's a lie.

But the meaning of life is a mystery that we don't understand.
And the music is a rhapsody if you're happy the way that you are.

I am a mirror. I am a mirror. Looking at me you see yourself
I am a mirror. I am a mirror. Every face is someone else.
Look at me smile and you're the clown. And if I dance you turn around.
Look in my eyes and see your tears until the music disappears.

And the meaning of life is a mystery though we live it from day to day.
But the music of live should be harmony so that anyone here can play.

I am a mirror. I am a mirror. Looking at me you see yourself
I am a mirror. I am a mirror. Every face is someone else.
Look at me smile and you're the clown. And if I dance you turn around.
Look in my eyes and see your tears until the music disappears.
