Since when were you so helpless? Make a plan man. Get a lift. Hire a taxi. Build a giant catapult on top of your house. Borrow some cash from your parents. Rob a bank. Explain why.

Explain why I'm helpless or explain why I need to borrow money from and to my cash-strapped parents?

Also, since when am I so helpless? 'bout as long as I can remember.

As for the rest of it; a taxi would be ridiculously expensive, I don't know anybody who might be able to give me a lift on any given day aside from my parents. A giant a catapult would be hilarious but incredibly expensive and impractical...

I'm sure your parents aren't gonna want their kiddo to be experiencing shit quality of life for the lack of a few bucks. Ask 'em. Find out how much an appointment will cost. Consult with the audiologist over the phone and ask if (s)he needs to see you - that costs nothing.

Well step one of de-helpless-ifying yourself is to make a plan and execute step one of the said plan.

You *sure* about that? Plus google is your friend. Maybe you *can* actually find someone useful in walking distance. If not walking distance of home then walking distance of school. And again, what's so bleedin' difficult about asking your parents for a lift? Fuel isn't *that* expensive. Time isn't *that* precious.

Come *on* man. If this is really such a problem then turning up the volume ain't gonna solve it. For a start you're gonna run out of knob sooner or later.

Thanks for the concern, Morondog, I'll be trying to broach the "I need to see an ear-doc" conversation again with each of my parents when I next get the opportunity.
Not looking forward too it, mind. I hate asking people for help like this stuff. Just makes me feel bad.

Well I'm going to turn my fan on high to mask the noise, put it near my bed and go to sleep. G'night.

Phone the wretched audio dude first and find out prices and ask him what he thinks and if he can help ya out. It makes the conversation easier.

Also sorry for bein' a grouch Wink But you gonna have to learn to do this stuff one day.

Asking for stuff is not bad. Asking for help is not bad. People can say no... Just... like I say, you need to learn to do this and not feel bad. I know the whole shyness deal dude. I used to be terrified of answering the phone. Phone calls with me can still be fairly surreal experiences for both parties but now I've learned to laugh about it...

All of this stuff, being shy and what-not. You can make a plan and learn to deal with it. It's not set in stone for all time that that is how your personality is and will remain.

Good luck.

RE: Ranting corner
I'm an lgbtq rights moderate activist with plans on going in deeper. I have an invitation from an activist group to take on a leadership role, and everything that I do for this cause is important to me. I fucking love it. The only problem is that even though I'm not hiding that I'm bisexual, since I never officially came out, people keep referring to me as an ally.

So! I made a video to share with my family where I explain what it means to be an atheist (I came out as an atheist a while back, but they don't seem to fully understand what it means), and what it means to be bisexual. Yes, some people have the wrong idea of what it means. I know. It's sad.

I tried to make it as personal as possible, even throwing in an intro where I remind my family about things that identified me growing up. Anyway... I'm going to share it with them later. I'm a grown ass woman, dammit! BUT! We were fundies. Had I come out sooner, I'd have been out in the streets as a teen, most likely. Meh. At least I didn't take it with me to the grave.

Wait, wait - hold the bus.

Two things.
Don't you (Australia) have Medicare?

What kind of parents don't take their kid to the doctor?

Free Thought:

Get to a damn doctor. You live in a country with publically subsidised specialist care. Very little will be out of pocket.

I can't remember how old you are. Are you still a minor? If your parents refuse to address a persistent medical issue that's criminal and you can contact child services.
