Not looking forward too it, mind. I hate asking people for help like this stuff. Just makes me feel bad.

Well I'm going to turn my fan on high to mask the noise, put it near my bed and go to sleep. G'night.

Wait, wait - hold the bus.

Two things.
Don't you (Australia) have Medicare?

What kind of parents don't take their kid to the doctor?

Yes, Australia does have Medicare, but if you don't have a card, Medicare isn't charged and you have to pay out of pocket.
Annoyingly enough, I don't have a Medicare card yet. And I can't get one of my own because I don't have my birth certificate. For me to use it, I'd have to take one of my parent's cards with my name on it.

Get to a damn doctor. You live in a country with publically subsidised specialist care. Very little will be out of pocket.

I can't remember how old you are. Are you still a minor? If your parents refuse to address a persistent medical issue that's criminal and you can contact child services.

Ophthalmology and dentistry are two examples of specialist services which are not covered under the Medicare system, I have no idea whether audiology is covered, but I'd bet on 'no'.

I am 18, legally an adult, CJLR, but my parents are technically still responsible for me as I am not yet covered under Medicare and I am still living under them.

It's not like this is anything new though, it took my primary schools principal's intervention before I got taken to get my eyes checked after years of so-slow-I-couldn't-really-notice degrading vision and slowly increasing headaches.
It's not that my parents are refusing to take me to a doctor, it's more like 'We'll go when we have the time and money', as opposed to 'We're not going'. And like I said before, I don't like having to ask them for help, makes me feel annoying, weak and generally bad.

I'd go to my GP to see if I might be able to get a referral to an audiologist, but I'd end up feeling really awkward with having to ask; I hate going to doctors, feel like a nuisance with trival problems any time I go. Plus I can't tell the way the conversation would go and can't try to plan ahead for it which is why I am hesitant to do it.

I doubt an open consult is, but I think it's a pretty safe bet it works like it does here - a referral visit qualifies for partial coverage.

Well, that's probably out, then.

And it's proooooobably more trouble than it's worth to sue your own parents.

So, it sounds like more of your actual problem is in asserting yourself. The services are there to be used, that's your right as a participating citizen...

Dude, you've got more issues than your tinnitus. You're a smart guy, I don't remember you being so shy or reluctant to talk to people. Most people don't try to visualize conversations ahead of time, are you worried you'll say something you'll later regret?

Doctors know people get sick, that's why people go see them. He's getting paid to do a job, so let him do his job and fix your issue.

Also, get the damn medicare card Angry And tell your parents to help you out.

RE: Ranting corner
So, my old boss fired me in January for no particular reason. I had never had a warning or disciplinary action, nor had I even received a verbal warning. Her partner/husband even said that he would give me a reference which never came to pass. I couldn't ever get an answer as to what the deal was/is. I applied for unemployment but was working again in three weeks (though this job sucks). Oh, and she didn't pay me my vacation either.

She decided to fight my right to unemployment and after several calls with an agent I finally got the decision today....I was officially let go for no reason having to do with my work. This is good news, not because I am not working, but because the job I am on is a contract assignment, it could end at any time and then I would need unemployment as a safety net.

Now that I have that decision in writing, I can go after my vacation pay. Thumbsup

Not really, sex just makes me content. Big Grin

Now if I could speak Russian, that would be a legit claim to badassery.

Uh, Tarty?

That's a visually-based substitution.

Yeah. And you went for visual correspondence instead of phonetic correspondence...
