I know this is going to start a war, but here goes... I can't tell you how happy I was that he skipped the entire first half of the first book, including Tom fuckin' Bombadil, because it was boring and tedious as shit to read. *ducks for cover*

I can understand choosing leaving some things out for time constraints, but that creates plot gaps. His attempts at restitching the plot were ludicrous. Remember the barrows after they left Bombadil - that's where they get their weapons. Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims. Science is not a subject, but a method. RE: Rate the Last Film You've Seen
Well yippee, today I saw my first 3D movie.
It reminded me of those old 3D cards we used to get on cereal packets. This was 'punishment' for taking my flatmate to Les Mis - which she hated, having no prior knowledge of book or musical (whereas, me.... singing every word and crying like a girl from the opening scene). I said she could pick the next pic. I went in blind... no idea what I was going to see. Lots of perfume ads... bad omen... gonna be a chick flick. Review: Jack the Giant Slayer. Not even heard about this movie before. Excellent largely Brit cast (a semi-reunion of the Trainspotting ensemble) plus the immediately recognisable voice of Bill Nighy as the chief ogre. Oddly, in a reversal of the Hollywood tradition, an American played the baddie. All in all, a very enjoyable tongue-in-cheek romp-com ©. My friend loved it and here's what I find remarkable... she had no prior inkling of the old fairy tale on which the film was based. Same with the Snow White movie recently. I just can't get my head around that kinda thing.
