Real life atheists!
I just attended my first ever atheist meetup. The Seattle atheists walked around a lake and then went out to coffee and I joined them (the organizer bought me hot chocolate because she is nice, and it took me like 45 minutes to find the group on the ~4 mile circle stretch of lake haha). I met about 8 people, and they were all really nice, and awesome to talk to.

So much fun talking about atheism and religion out loud! We talked about the rapture, jesus camp, raptor jesus, religulous, dawkins scale, sarah palin, SNL, people's religious background.

Awwesssomee!! I think I talked too much though pahaha, but I tend to do that.

Loved it, can't wait to see them again.

Anybody else have any local atheist meetup experience? Meetup.com is an awesome place!

I prefer fantasy, but I have to live in reality.

RE: Real life atheists!
We have a local atheist meetup group. All of which are super cool people. There's always a few stragglers who are "weird" but for the most part, awesome group of people.

Was it ghost lake you walked around? Tee hee.

I've heard the group in my city are all pompous jerks. Wouldn't know. I have enough friends that are along the same lines as me and I feel comfortable around, I don't feel the need to meet other people based on that.

Yeah. I meet with a local group too. It's really nice.

Just got back from one.
Discussing an affiliation with CFI Canada. Exciting times for us.

Tried to be a part of an atheist community once previously over a decade ago.
Atheists don't naturally congregate well, so if you've found a group that you feel a connection with, hang on to it.

I'm thinking of meeting up with a group next month. They are going to watch the Bill Nye debate and are expecting a large group that day.

RE: Real life atheists!
I think I have a local meetup group, but last time I went to register it wanted to link to facebook. Will my meetups be public or not?

Give me your argument in the form of a published paper, and then we can start to talk.
