Thanks for pointing out yet another biblical error.
The bible does jump back and forth a bit. You'll notice in Genesis just after Noah people all of a sudden started living 70 years instead of 900. Abrahams's wife Sarah was 90 when she got prego for the first time and she lived another 15 years. This is due to the fact that they pieced it together. Try to read Genesis straight into Exodus. The 12 tribes completely change character. It's like taking 100 newspapers from 100 different years and cutting out pieces to tell the story of the last century, except we're talking 1500 years or more here using oral stories. Using these biblical numbers relative to current day understanding is pointless, unless you're a babtist preacher scaring children with she bears killing unbelievers. If you need more guidance on understanding biblical nonsense consult your local christian apologist. He'll have the christian answer for why it's not really as fucked up as it appears to be.
