I'm watching Brazil tonight. I have no idea what to expect, but I hear great things.

I'm about half way through this tedious joke of a movie... So far it's shaping up to be the worst thing I've seen all year.

RE: Recommended Sci-Fi movies/series
Now that I am home, time for a list of series I have watched recently that I thought were pretty good.

Babylon 5 (Sci-fi)
A series centered around the station, Babylon 5, and the politics between humanity and alien species.

Star Trek: Deep Space 9 (Sci-fi)
A series centered around the Deep Space 9 station near the planet Bajor, which discovers the existence of a wormhole leading to the Gamma Quadrant at the opposite side of the galaxy.

Agents of Shield (Thriller, Superhero, Sci-fi)
Follow Agent Coulson and his team of specialists on their journey to save SHIELD and the future of humanity.

Psychopass (Anime/Horror/Sci-fi)
The police department has created a piece of technology that can read the innocence or guilt of a subject based on neurological chemistry; is it as accurate as many people believe?

Can't believe I forgot to mention this movie, but "Moon" is awesome. Kind of a modernized "2001: ASO" with more of a psychological slant, and less of the origin of species. Sam Rockwell ftw!

TV. Series

Dr. Who - My Dr. is #10. But you can really jump in at anytime. SciFi/Suspence/Adventure/Mystery/Horror

Red Dwarf - Star Trek with a Funny bone.
SciFi/Comedy

Stargate (SG-1 / SG universe) - SG-1 very 90's writing but it's fun.
A forewarning about SGU thou it was canceled at the end of it second season so a cliff hanger that will never be answered.
SciFi

LOST - I know! I know! But what and amazing ride.
Mystery/Adventure/Scifi

Earth 2 - Another Canceled series, also very 90's. It follows the journey and settlement of a small expeditionary group called the Eden Project, with the intent to journey to an Earth-like planet called G889 in an attempt to find a cure to an illness called "the syndrome".
Adventure/Scifi

Movies

The Last Starfighter - Every kids dream! Being the best at video games and wind up fighting a interstellar war.
Action/Scifi

Enemy Mine - One Man and One Alien trapped on a unforgiving planet. The two of their races have been at war with each other for years. But in order to survive they have to rely on each other.
SciFi/Drama

They Live! - What if everything you knew was a lie? And the only way you could see the truth is with a pair of nerdy glasses. Interdimentional aliens have been takeing over the earth brain washing people with commecials. Super Cheese Ball but whenever I start I can't stop watching.
"I've come to kick ass and chew bubble gum. And I'm all out of Bubble gum."
Comedy?/Scifi

Don't Live each day like it's your last. Live each day like you have 541 days after that one where every choice you make will have lasting implications to you and the world around you. ~ Tim Minchin

Quote:Would Babylon 5 be recommended?
I enjoyed it for the most part but I lost interest by the time I finished the series and was trying to get through all the movies. I have an action figure of Londo on my desk.

Quote:Star Trek: Voyager is one of my favorites.

I've been trying to get through that series for 20 years now, and I still can't do it. The only Star trek I lost interest in halfway through. Well, lost interest long before that, seemed like "disease of the week" for a lot of it, but I bravely soldiered on for a while. I'll finish it eventually. I even liked Enterprise more than Voyager.

I loved ST: DS9, didn't watch it until a few years ago, but it didn't really get interesting until maybe season3, before that I was bored to tears. Last season is pretty much garbage, too.

Earth 2 and Space: Above and Beyond were my favorite cancelled 90s sci-fi shows. Own all the seasons for each on DVD.....easy because each lasted but one season.

Hell yea Commonsensei! They Live is of the most righteous of movies. The epic throw down between Roddy Piper and Keith David is cinema at its finest.

Some anime movies to get you started:

Ghost in the Shell
In the future nearly all humans have some level of surgical enhancement. A small number are full-blown cyborgs with only their brain remaining human. So what does "human" mean? This film helped inspire the matrix, although it is set in the real world rather than a virtual world.

Patlabor 1 & 2, Macross Plus
These titles cover a range of mech films. Patlabor 1 & 2 focus on a mech-based police unit. Macross Plus deals with the tensions between test pilots working for competing aviation manufacturers tendering for government contracts.

As for Babylon 5 I do recommend it. Season 1 is slow. I found Seasons 2-4 excellent. Season 5 is a strange one because the show was originally meant to run for five seasons but was cancelled early... so they stuffed all of the Season 5 plot into season 4. Then... they were uncancelled. So yeah, season 5 is a mess.

Give me your argument in the form of a published paper, and then we can start to talk.
