It takes time for the brainwashing to wear off.

Just don't let a priest loosen your pants in the meanwhile.

Atheism is NOT a Religion. It's A Personal Relationship With Reality!

Any ideas...suggestions or advice??? Thank you...

Define pantheist and how it differs from atheist.

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.

What about intuition?

Intuition is not knowledge.
It is sometimes helpful in pointing us in a direction, rightly or wrongly.

We have a word for the universe already; why call it something that adds a huge amount of baggage and implications that can't be demonstrated?

I also believe that awe, wonder, and mystery exist. I just see no need to personify them.

Atheism: it's not just for communists any more!

Humans personify things, it's what we are hardwired (via our brain make up) to do. No gods needed Wink See Andy Thomson's lecture on "Why We Believe in Gods" available on youtube.

Intuition, as Chas mentioned, is helpful in pointing us in the right/wrong direction. The thing with intuition is, that it can frequently be wrong. Our brains are set up to see patterns and make assessments, to figure out our environment for maximum survival--all brought to you by evolution. However, our brains *often* make incorrect patterns--or form incorrect intuitive courses of action based on incorrect patterns. You add pattern making in with the human trait to personify objects, things, etc. and there you have your god. That is why it is imperative to rely on logic and reason and only use intuition as a guide, but not a fail-safe guide.

From Rational-wiki:

Quote:Can an omnipotent being create a stone so heavy that it cannot lift it?
If yes: the being's power is limited, because it cannot lift the stone.
If no: the being's power is limited, because it cannot create the stone.

"God" or any "gods" of any description are man-made ideas, that are used to control the masses. A person can only do so much, but the idea of an all powerful being that could destroy the entire universe , and then condemn you to be punished for all eternity, because you've been bad, is much a more effective "threat" to give somebody into following your rules.
