Having sex with an innocent child is reprehensible and abusive, whether it took place yesterday or a hundred years ago, and it will be reprehensible tomorrow and a hundred years into the future.

Alla's right on this one. The age of consent at the time was 10-12 in most state except Delaware where it was 7. Wasn't seen as socially unacceptable or out of the ordinary at the time.

Oh, I agree that, back in the day, in certain religiously-influenced circles it was acceptable to marry underage children. (Delaware must have been pretty f*cked up though. 7? Sysly?) Such things still go on in cults and theocratic states; many Muslim states are rife with underage and forced marriages. Spewing bible verses is the last refuge of the truly desperate, since they're entirely without foundation and with exactly zero credibility.

I'm going to disagree on this point. Politics arose from religion, and both exist for the same basic purpose: to give the few power over the many. The basic goals of religion and politics are 1) self-preservation; 2) dominance; 3) dissemination and perpetuation. Everything else is window dressing towards the advancement of those core values.

RE: Religion and Politics
Nothing has credibility except what has happened. The bible gives us prophecies of what has happened and whats going to happen. And we have to wait for that mabe we need to excavate to find more stuff but from a thinkers perspective you don't think that's how were suppose to live it.
