Religion in the movies
By the title, I mean, anything and everything with a religious background - exorcisms, Knights Templar, Salem Witch Trails, angels, cults, etc - to be really entertaining. They are among my favourite kind of movie.

I am an atheist, but I do think the Bible has given us some the best works of fiction in the movies (and in literature). There's quite a bit you can do with it!

My favourites: Dogma, The Devil's Advocate and The Prophecy series (the first 3... the 4th one I haven't seen and haven't felt compelled to, yet).

Anyone have any favourite religious based films?

You mean Biblical fan fiction? I'm writing a novel that would count if my wildest dream came true and someone bought the film rights to it.

Anything. It could mock religion, follow religion, so long as the basis is in religion in some form Smile

They have nothing to do with one another, but every time I hear anything about Scientology, Flash Gordan comes to mind Tongue

Haven't seen these, but would like to:

The Rapture
The Master
Martha Marcy May Marlene

An interesting "found footage" horror movie I have seen is The Last Exorcism - about a pastor who has lost his faith, but then faces some wacky stuff while doing a documentary on fake exorcisms.

The Keep is a good one as well, although I believe that the book goes deeper with exploring religious themes than the movie does...

Dune (movie and book) is also an interesting mash-up of religious themes.

It is pretty heartbreaking. The Omen is a good one.
