Religious Music
At the risk of getting chased out of town with big sticks...

Do you guys have any favourite religious/spiritual/devotional music?

One of the things that helps me reconcile my atheism with the fact that I'm in a gospel choir is Dawkins' point that you don't have to be religious to be moved by the music - so do you folks have any good stuff to help illustrate this point?

I'm also a big fan of Georgian music - this is a devotional piece to the Virgin Mary and one of my favourites

Any other suggestions?

No, really:

Haven't found a better version, other than a very old man chanting it, and hey I can get that at Sangha.

Atheism is NOT a Religion. It's A Personal Relationship With Reality!

Not even gonna lie; I love the song O Night Divine. Hearing it on Home Alone when I was a kid made me want to learn how to play it on the piano once I got the chance.

I'm a huge fan of Gospel music. Much of the classical I love was written for the church.

To me music trancends pretty much everything.Drinking Beverage

I love full ensemble+choir music. It's hard to find any that isn't religious... So I listen to religious music. Thumbsup I recently bought a copy of some stuff that was originally sung for king Henry VIII's coronation. It's really beautiful.

Atheism is the only way to truly be free from sin.

RE: Religious Music
I actually grew up on a lot of fringe CCM, and some of it isn't bad. Even when I was into "Christian" rock (a ludicrous marketing term), I was drawn more to artists that weren't about proselytization and were more concerned with craft and creativity.

Nowadays, I'm definitely not combing the trenches of that scene looking for gems, but these are examples of great records and are all given glowing reviews by the same atheist (J. Edward Keyes) on allmusic:

The Prayer Chain - Mercury
Daniel Amos - Motorcycle
The Throes - All the Flowers Growing in Your Mother's Eyes
