Resources on Liberalism, Democratic Party, etc
When I was a believer, I didn't have much of a knowledge or interest in politics, but just followed along with the conservative republican thinking of the culture and friends around me. Since I've become an atheist, there's still a lot about politics I don't know much about (except for how government works and is structured), but on a number of individual issues, I've seen myself holding to more liberal ideas.

So could you recommend how to go about a process of learning about political issues, liberalism, debunking republican ideas and half truths...as well as recommend some good books and resources? I know this is a huge topic, but I'm just needing some direction to know how and where to start this journey of learning more about politics and formulating my positions. Thank you!

And please feel free to recommend any resources on your view, whether you're socialist, old school liberal, whatever.

And I'm also not trying to imply that atheism = liberal, I'm just wanting to read more since I'm leaning more that way on some issues.

There was only ever 1 party worth joining!

Well first of all the Democratic Party is not Liberal. They are a center-right party and would be the conservative party in any sane country. As for the rest I find Politifacts and Snopes is good for fact checking and as to the rest broad reading is the best solution to ignorance. Start with Wikipedia and then follow the sources of those articles.

I recommend listening to the Democracy Now podcast. Available free on iTunes or on their own website, which I think is probably democracynow-dot-org.

I've posted this before so I'll add it again here. This is a beautifully detailed "party" comparison on many levels of agendas.

Political Party Comparsion

Happy comparing!
