I made one once when I worked in the post-department of a corporate office. I was going to drop it several floors down the fire escape but decided not to when it got too big. I realised that it would bounce and smash a window if I did. It got to the size of a grapefruit.

Starting it off isn't too hard. You get a rubber band, scrunch it up and tie into some kind of knot and then while still holding it tight wrap another band around it to keep it together. Then you can just start adding rubber bands to it. If you're bored at work you soon figure it out.

I have one that is about the size of a softball. It took years to get that big.
