I attempted to visit the thread you posted but it came back as an error, sorry. But I do know what "will" and "shall" mean and I know you do as well... so please tell me why these are NOT future predictions:

Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan—

2 The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
a light has dawned.
3 You have enlarged the nation
and increased their joy;
they rejoice before you
as people rejoice at the harvest,
as warriors rejoice
when dividing the plunder.
4 For as in the day of Midian’s defeat,
you have shattered
the yoke that burdens them,
the bar across their shoulders,
the rod of their oppressor.
5 Every warrior’s boot used in battle
and every garment rolled in blood
will be destined for burning,
will be fuel for the fire.
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the greatness of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
will accomplish this.

RE: Run The Gauntlet
What are seen to be now as future predictions, are 100 % irrelevant.
(The link is fixed BTW).
As anyone knows who has actually studied the Bible, the role of a prophet was not prediction of the future,
therefore any attempt at saying anything in that entire direction is ignornce of Hebrew culture, as any scholar knows.
It's simply barking up the wrong tree. It would be nice if the theist trolls actually knew something abouut their own books.

Happy to read it but 404 still, now - http://www.thethinkingatheist.com/forum/...#pid257278
I've read the Bible multiple times in multiple versions. I'm conversant with the one in umpteen translations that says "soothsaying" rather than "witchcraft" or "false divination".
Something like a third of the OT and a fourth of the NT is composed of future predictions!

"Future predictions" from the Bronze age. Care to give any examples? What is the connection between prophecy and the existence of a god?

RE: Run The Gauntlet
The Jews are supposed to be exiled from Israel for 390 years. No wait, got to add 40 more for some reason. That makes it 430 years, starting in 536BC. So they should have re-inherited Israel in the year 106 BC, but wait, you apparently have to add in Leviticus (a separate book with a separate author) to (for some reason) multiply 360 years by 7 to get 2,520 years. And apparently you have to take into account that their years were 360 days and not 365.25 days (because god forgot to mention that) so that you have to use years in their sense (because the instructions on that are clear) so that you get 1947, but nevermind that, you actually get 1948. Which happens to coincide with the year that Israel was established as a nation.

I mean, if it can't be made any more clear than that, then I just don't know how anyone could deny the predictions of the bible.

The predictions here are vague, and posted in the future with out a date. So that no matter what happens eventually that prophecy will be fulfilled. That's the key though with making predictions, be vague, never offer a date, and you'll always be correct.
