You know, the Duma was going to vote toward progression, but they just keep Putin it off.

The Christian Orthodox church runs the show in Russia. Hitchens warned us of this.

It is only going to get worse in Russia. Over the next few years we are going to see Russia continue to devolve into a state where being different in any way from Putin's preferred standards will become a target in your back. Homosexuals are just the beginning. It's scary shit.

Maybe Putin needs a target on his back. Consider

Time for a revival of the Socialist Revolutionaries?

They did well for themselves murdering nobility and other high-ranking individuals the last time, after all.

The orthodox churches have always run the local show - even in USSR.

The Soviet regime sought to control it mainly for their power hungry agenda so, in times of national crisis they would exploit it, which only served to give it more and more power. This is how the church was able to maintained a foothold since the days of the Czar.

Every 5 years or so, USSR had some national crisis and a new generation would fortify the ranks of converts - some believed by doing so, they rebelled against the regime. Ironically, if the government would have just left it alone, the church would have simply died out with it's dwindling populations becoming increasingly older.

Trotsky warned about being all cozy with the church and how to handle it.

Well, Stalin was an evil, paranoid, power hungry psychopath who demonized Trotsky.

Stalin studied for the priesthood in the orthodox church. Useful training if you want to learn how to rule over people with fear.

Very useful, true. But when he wants to really instill fear he does this
