RE: Sam Harris--The End of Liberalism?
listen to this fucktard use a conservative explanation for being against government transparancy, he gives some extreme examples for reasons to not be for transparancy but refuses to answer the questions asked to him. He is against wikileaks and he jacks off around the bush on the question of whether or not wikileaks should have realeased the famous video of soldiers killing civilians and joking about it. Sam Harris once again a fraud and piece of shit.

RE: Sam Harris--The End of Liberalism?
Does Sam Harris ever criticize the religious government of Israel? It is one of the many religious governments in the middle east that were founded on and based on religious beliefs. Is there any writing by Sam Harris that deals with the state of Israel?

He is an atheist right?

...

Nope. Israel was founded as a secular state.

Many of the founders were atheist.

A bit like the US really but more so.

Liberals raging in this thread is quite amusing. Can't imagine the reaction to the crowd when Harris put out his essay on guns. Foaming at the mouth no doubt. Any kind of support for guns, Israel or the war in Iraq makes one a target for attack. Love seeing Harris being proved right.

Yep Bryan, Maher does sometimes make a good point, lots of crap comes out of his mouth but he has it right there.

Indeed. It sounds just like the fundies here in the US when people try to claim that Israel was founded in other than a secular way.

What I would say is that today, just as with the US, Israel is becoming more and more aggressively religious, and the secularists are on the outside looking in. Believe it or not, Israel has some catching up to do, as they at least give secularists the chance to run for office. Imagine someone poo-pooing religion running for any office-even dog catcher-here in the US.

Yeah, I'm in Debbie downer-mode today. heh.

Sometimes quoting statements against interest helps clear away some of the foam and make people think harder about their prejudiced opinions. They'll probably whine and gnash their teeth over this Mahr comment as well, but he's right in this case.

If there's hope for liberals to acknowledge the evil, to realize the threat from fundamentalists in one religion in particular, it is from the atheist community. It is only in the atheist community that the truth about the particular pernicious threat from Islam is even contemplated. Yet on this thread we can see how hard it is even for many atheists to acknowledge this due to some strange alliance between the left and fundamentalist Islam.

The problem here is the term Liberal. In the United States it (and it's counterpart Conservative) are used to cover such a broad swath of the political landscape as to be almost useless as a descriptor in any but the broadest way. It is similar to claiming all Deists are one way or another or all atheists are one way or another. Frankly whenever one side mentions the other like that it is always a strawman argument.
