Science has resurrected!

Well, not really, since it never died, but it's interesting to see that the physics community is closing in on the Higgs boson.

I think that my favorite part of the article, though, is how it mentions that even if the Higgs boson doesn't exist it doesn't mean that the Standard model will be necessarily cast aside.

Oh, and no mention of god anywhere in those pesky little gaps in our knowledge.

Quote:The new data will show whether that was a fluke or whether they are
really on the road to discovering the long-lost boson, physicists say.
Long-lost? I think not. Long-sought.

When journalists can't even write clear English, it's no wonder that people have such a gross misunderstanding of science. And of reality.

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.

Well... the Times article was written by a failed novelist with a physics degree from MIT ... obviously a romanticist... and you know their kind are prone to fits of drama and hyperbole. Wink

I think in the end, I just feel like I'm a secular person who has a skeptical eye toward any extraordinary claim, carefully examining any extraordinary evidence before jumping to conclusions. ~ Eric ~ My friend ... who figured it out.

RE: Science has resurrected!
Ahh yes, attempting to discover something that helps add to our understanding of the universe we live in.

So in the past 2000+ years, how often does Christianity or any religion for that matter, ever make NEW discoveries about their gods, their afterlife, their souls, etc ?

"Today in Christian news, we discovered that heaven doesn't really have streets paved with gold. Apparently all the dead gold miners throughout all history have mined all the streets clean. Streets in heaven are now made of adamantine.....Oh wait, reports are coming in about an adamantine strike in heaven. Scabs from hell are breaking the picket lines. God is nowhere to be seen and the hundreds of souls in heaven are getting a bit nervous. Rumors are pouring in that Thor is arriving to end the strike. Hopefully this will end peacefully ......Back to you Jim"

RE: Science has resurrected!
They're not going to find the Higgs boson unless they lie about it (in order to keep getting research grants).

"Why?" you ask. Because the Higgs boson would be one of the greatest arguments for God there is in the physical universe. It will do for the teleological argument what the Big Bang did for the cosmological argument.

Trust me, atheists, you don't want a Higgs boson flying around.

And there won't be, because God seems to like not being proved. It's His own cosmic gag reel.

Higgs Boson proven or disproven, either way it will advance our understanding.

Fucking Egor... see this thing?

Guess what the H stands for? Tongue

You're on the other thread ragging on the standard model, and then you're over here spouting off that the Higgs is god... you need a consistent philosophy. Just sayin' Angel
