RE: Science is a Religion.
And it is not exaclty the pinnacle of moral clarity to insult a man's identifiers. In the conext of his culture Mohammed was a good man and Islam a good thing; for its first two centuries it was the flower of the east. While you do not have to respect this, it helps to note it is worthy of respect.

I disagree with your characterization of science in this description.
The science master will simply say "There is no evidence."

Yup. And then it stops talking. One of many differences between science and religion is that science knows when to just shut the fuck up. Doesn't mean it ain't gonna have something to say on the matter later.

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

RE: Science is a Religion.
Well, here's how I see it.

When something is wrong...
Science: Figures out the reason for the anomaly, ensure statistical significance, ensure results are free from bias, rework a better hypothesis and make a conclusion.
Religion: Ignores mistake, pass mistake as "metaphorical interpretion", and ensure conclusion stays the same throughout regardless of severity of error. Attempt to confuse those who doubt through logical loops, it's easier that way.

I hope my viewpoint isn't too extreme Sad

I would like to first apoligize to the members of the forum for my outburst, and for letting abdelz sink me to his level. I also recognize that my post may have diminished the intelectual integrity of this forum and for that i am sorry.

That said, back to the topic at hand.
I agree with robotworld, Religion is the stagnation of ideas and the creating of non existent excuses, when the scientific method is used to describe and measure phenomena based on rathional thinking and examination of evidence, religion on the other hand relies on dogma and vague texts written by people of questionable literacy and knowledge to explain the same phenomena, that can be seen in the description of how the earth came to be.

Either a disk of matter revolving around a new formed sun coelesed into itself over millions of years by the force of gravity or an intelligent deity poofed it into existense in 6 days and left behind no evidence of its existence, when this is challenged theologans retreat to a metaphorical interpretation, although in my experience when being taught about islam it was taught to me in a very literal sense and only when i was having doubts and contested the notion did the teachers on the spot shout "meteaphor" and ignore the fact that:

1- there is no destinction in holy text between what is or isnt to be taken literally therefore they use their own criteria fro distinguishing, that also (in their mind) allows them to switch back and forth on the spot in the middle of an argument.

2- and the holy texts (in my experience with the quraan) are written very vaguely to allow such a retreat and the formation of new interpretations to fit new found facts (something that muslims are very proud of).

Don't let me see that again. And guys seriously... I know AbdelZ is annoying and it's tempting to troll him back. (I didn't set the best example myself in that regard.)

Still don't feed the trolls ok! Please just make like someone farted and skim over the post when you see 'AbdelZ'

I found it's very easy to let sleeping idiots lie by putting him on my ignore list. I can still see his response to people but, it kind of helps me not respond by momentarily excluding him from the conversation. I think it's a great feature!

I mean... I didn't even respond when he referred to me as "vulgar toilet lady"... and I have such a great smiley for it, too.

Apology understood, acknowledged, but unnecessary, Jackrabbit -AbZ started it and he's just mean & unreasonable.
But also - thanks - I just googled Kos OMAK - and WOW! [Image: 10.gif]
Now I'm just trying to figure out how I can use it in a sentence. Dodgy

The Satanic Verses are no longer found in the Q'uran. The best way to find out specifics are to actually read the book, which is set as a history-revealing fiction very similar to The Da Vinci Code. Even though I'd never even cracked open the Q'uran before reading this book, I still followed it well and enjoyed it. I imagine you'd love it more.
