Yes, you can choose your friends but you are stuck with family.


Of course, how often you interact with them is up to you.

Don't even try to talk to someone who's been drinking. They are never in a mood to listen but will certainly expound upon whatever is going around in their head at the moment. Your father is trying to quell the pain he is feeling thro alcohol, perhaps the pain of looking back and feeling he failed at life and now it's too late. Maybe too many broken dreams, wanting to provide better for his family. If religion has become a crutch, than as a good son you can tolerate this with understanding.
