They believed in salvation by grace and grace alone, and in the inability to lose salvation. As such, no sins could make a believer lose salvation, period. Naturally, sin was rampant. A little too rampant. But no guilt trips if you had sex before you got married. Plus, they spent a lot of time mocking mainstream Christianity, especially the Trinity. Good practice for the leap to atheism, ultimately.

But in a lot of ways, they became a very legalistic organization as well. Tons of rules and regulations about trivial things. Abortion was fine. Mortgages were not, because God doesn't want us in debt. Seriously.

That is all very interesting. It never ceases to amaze me what different religions believe or don't believe. It is also not unexpected that mocking goes on between sects of the same "faith", even murder is never far behind (Sunni/Shia'a), and WE are the unholy ones...go figure.

Last year there was a hubbub in the Jewish community on who really was a Jew. American Jews were up in arms over this.

Right now over a billion Catholics are looking at a chimney to see what color smoke comes up...and if mass will go back to being held in Latin.

Who knows what'll be next...maybe there'll be a rift between the Appalachian crowd on serpents, is handling a Water Moccassins instead of an Eastern Diamondback Rattler ok? Shocking

The cool thing for me about atheism is we only have to worry about agnostics Big Grin

RE: Seeing the Dark
Emo Phillips had a good skit on the subject of Christians hating each other (noting that it was especially true the closer the two Christians are to each other, doctrinally).

I'll see if I can find it online.

And may I express my admiration (?) toward you for managing to hold on to your faith while moderating a site like this one!

(That is, assuming you have not changed your mind since writing on the few threads I have perused.
Well, thank you very much.

That is both unexpected and appreciated.

Yes, I am still a Christian... and a moderator.

The discussion has always been that my religious affiliation has no bearing on moderating a forum objectively... so with that... they keep me around Wink

Truthfully he has dirt on all of us. We just pretend to be nice to keep him from posting pics from the annual orgy on porn sites. Hence all the waffle about what an objective moderator he is... If you're wondering how come I can tell you this, it's 'cos I missed last year's orgy Weeping
