RE: Shai Reads The Case for Christ
Still doing this on my phone. Autocorrect is fighting me every step of the way. If y'all see things with silly grammatical errors or words that don't seem to fit, please understand it's not me. I fix the major stuff when I find it, but please assume any errors of spelling or sense/syntax are not my own.

RE: Shai Reads The Case for Christ
So, Shai ... what's your next book?
If it's the Dawkins one mentioned, I probably won't stay tuned. I'm not a fan. At all. I'd find it all too easy to dismantle him myself. Dodgy
Meh - I think he just needs to stick with evolutionary biology - something he's good at.

Maybe the Nick Tosches book I suggested a while back, Under Tiberius ...hmm? Smile
But of course, it's a novel. Shy Not certain you are doing those.

Ohhh shai. Its finally over. Pour yourself a cold one and smoke some crack because that harms fewer brain cells.

You know, I've been thinking about this and, while I agree that The God Delusion is fairly piss-poor counter-apologetics, I think this should be his next book after all... with the same level of scrutiny and skepticism applied to it that was just applied to The Case for Christ. He and his atheist friend can make it their next reading project (even if she is only halfheartedly participating), as a fair-is-fair tit-for-tat look at the bad apologists on both sides, since as I pointed out, this book has attained the same sort of "cult status" among atheists that TCfC has attained among Christians.

I'd certainly be curious to hear Shai's take on it. I like the way his brain works.

Oh, you mean actually read The God Delusion, itself? Consider I guess that's not a bad choice. (A bit on the simpering side - as I said, not a fan.)

I was under the impression they were getting a "sneak peek" at their next book .... which was to be, Answering the New Atheism: Dismantling Dawkins' Case Against God, by Scott Hahn & Benjamin Wiker.

Frankly, I'm not certain I could stomach much more of the gladhanding these guys saturate their books with. They really do the massage so deftly. Then, they try to make you think you've "discovered" ... exactly what they want you to know. That's when they've hooked their prey.

It is down right creepy Sadcryface but also, sad that it actually works on some people.

RE: Shai Reads The Case for Christ
Under Tiberius sounds interesting, I've never heard of it before! And yeah, mean to do Answering the New Atheism; though maybe an atheist book after it? I do have a copy of The God Delusion laying around somewhere...

Fun aside; the major fundraiser for my parish in grad school was our Annual Used Book Sale. When I was a Baptist, we once had a woman who wanted to literally burn copies of Harry Potter that were donated to the church rummage sale. Not the Catholic used book sale. We sold Dawkins and Hitchens, books on witchcraft, etc. I think the only thing we didn't sell was porn.

Anyhow two pics from back in the day:

RE: Shai Reads The Case for Christ
Quick question: Do I go with Answering the New Atheism, or should there be, as suggested, an alternating format with an atheist book? I just impulse bought Nailed for $6.66 on Kindle (because David Fitzergald is a snark master).

As far as Anspwering the New Atheism,I don't know about you but, if I was going to read something addressing Dawkins, I think I'd read some Dawkins first and then, go through the refutation of his ideas. I think it would make more sense to know what the author was referring to.

That Nailed book, it actually sounds pretty good. I just skimmed a couple of reviews and it seems a bit more complicated than I thought it would be. It certainly has me curious.

Sounds like a good read. Thumbsup

RE: Shai Reads The Case for Christ
I'd enjoy some deconstruction of bad counter-apologetics Smile I've not read any of these Dawkins books so it would be very interesting.

I have a website here which discusses the issues and terminology surrounding religion and atheism. It's hopefully user friendly to all.

I'd be interested for God Delusion. Frankly I thought it was pretty decent, so I'll be interested to see if debunking is possible.
