Shoud public nudity be legal?
I am defining public nudity as being naked in public i.e. the street, the park, the mall, picking the kids up from school etc. I do not include nudity used to cause distress (such as a flasher who opens his trench coat in front of a schoolgirl requesting she touch his penis) in this definition.

Clothes are a necessity. We need clothes to keep warm and provide additional comfort. However when the climate permits it nudity can be comfortable.

In most tribal societies everyone is naked as there is no need for clothes. This doesn't cause any harm, if anything they have a much healthier body image than those living in nations where the media decide what is 'normal'. Some argue that children must not be exposed to nudity, however if children are damaged by viewing nudity why do we allow them to see nude statues and paintings? Why are they allowed to view their own bodies?

In Victorian England it was unacceptable for a woman to show her ankles, why has this changed? If someone today is offended by women's ankles don't they still have a right not to be offended? What if someone is offended by black/gay/fat/ugly people?

We are quick to criticize Islamic nations where women are forced to wear a burka or hijab, yet we impose are own standards of decency on others. This is hypocrisy.

What right do people have to be offended by someones physical body? What justification is there for prohibiting nudity in public?

Ohmy

Are you kidding?

It should be compulsory.

Im not saying its either a bad or good thing but it would be interesting to watch in todays society, how certain people would cope with it.

Id go to the park a lot more I think, id be able to come out from the bushes as well Dodgy

The same colour blood just pass through our veins and tears taste the same when they splash on your face. Cant separate and still carry the weight, gotta heal get away from the fear and the hate. Gotta shake free from them chains, you see what remains, just a human being at the end of the day.

RE: Shoud public nudity be legal?
Bemore raises the key issue with it.

It is not so much "ewww a penis" so to speak (though if you've ever been to a beach and seen old gross fat men in speedos.. why would you want less clothing to be legal?) as it is protecting society (children in particular) from, to put it blunt, dirty old men.
How many "opps sorry I accidentally bumped into you" would there be of naked men bumping into pretty ladies? I can imagine it would skyrocket drastically.

Also, some people will be offended, a large number of people in fact, and so it is no concern of me, whom couldn't care less for a bit of public nudity (though I certainly don't actively campaign for it, nor engage in it) for people to wear cloths.

No sir,
Initially people would take offence. Initially there would be some pervs. Eventually it would be normal. We would become desensitised.

I do think, however, being the primitives that we are, adornment will replace what was once the fashion industry.
Body art and body shaping will become de rigueur.

btw, if anyone wants to visit me here in Sing, be prepared for loads of nudity. It is already compulsory in this apartment.

I am typing this while naked.

Hahahaha!

Muffsy summed the serious part up quite nicely (who would've thought Tongue ), so I'll just say that there's enough yuckiness in the world, with having further ugliness shoved in my face. Some people shouldn't go in public with clothes, but sans them... [Image: th_puking.gif]

RE: Shoud public nudity be legal?
I think it's important to see REAL people naked.
Young people have access to nude pics - but they are all touched up and unrealistic. Then their mate doesn't measure up.
It ruins a good number of relationships that could have been damn near perfect in all other ways.
If people were used to seeing realistic pics of normal people instead, I think it would solve a lot of ills, like eating disorders, porn addicitions and what have you.
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but if those eyes get conditioned to seeing only unrealistic images, real beauty doesn't even have a chance.
What I am saying is that we are indoctrinated when it comes to recognizing beauty.

That's true, but I would still prefer the person standing a bit too close to me on the subway to be fully-clothed though, Dom Dodgy
