RE: Should I Delete Christian Music?
Killing Floor 2

I just got this game on Steam about a week ago, seeing as how its the sequel to one of my favorite games ever. Not only that, but I also grabbed the Deluxe Edition that came with, among other things, the game's soundtrack. Now it's all industrial and heavy metal, and in game the tracks are played without the vocals (which I prefer, but you can enable them in the options).

So out of curiosity, I started to Google the bands on the album. Impending Doom, Demon Hunter, Living Sacrifice. Their common theme, besides being heavy mental? They're all Christian heavy metal. Whatever, like I said, their vocals are off by default in game and they do make good music to kill monsters to. Tongue

Every once in a while I tune my radio into a local Christian music station just for shits and giggles.

Im always floored by the corny lyrics.

RE: Should I Delete Christian Music?
I decided not to delete my Christian music, which is all Heavy Metal. Bands like Divinefire and Theocracy. The music is pretty good, if not the lyrics. Here's a sample of Divinefire's lyrics, lol

Live my life for you

Time after time and day after day
Learning my lesson every day
The Holy Spirit is guiding my way
In his presence I'll always stay

You are the light
You're shining so bright
You are the reason I'm still alive

I'll live my life for the Holy One
The cross has set me free
Live my life for the Holy One

Hear the music coming on strong
It gives me strength to carry on
You are my fire and my solid rock
Now and forever I'll never stop

You chose to save that tripe?

Good lord, how revolting. Here, here's what the thread needs now:

the 'Garden Wrote:And you stare at me
In your Jesus Christ pose
Arms held out
Like you've been carrying a load
And you swear to me
You don't want to be my slave
But you're staring at me
Like I need to be saved
In your Jesus Christ pose
Arms held out
In your Jesus Christ pose
Thorns and shroud
Like it's the coming of the Lord
And I swear to you
That I would never feed you pain
But your staring at me
Like I'm driving the nails
In your Jesus Christ pose
And you stare at me
In your Jesus Christ pose
Arms held out like it's
The coming of the Lord
Would it pay you more to walk on water
Then to wear a crown of thorns
It wouldn't pain me more to bury you rich
Then to bury you poor
In your Jesus Christ pose

I'm not understanding why you'd think one thing has to do with the other.

I still listen to sufi poetry. It is very good especially in my regional language.

Contemporary christian music is so cheesy I can't imagine anyone wanting to keep it, its just mindless vomit inducing sycophantic saccharine sweet gushing praise for a non existent deity there's only one sort worse and that's reggae ( imo of course realise musical tastes differ)

That is really up to you. I am a former christian and I have only been an athiest for a short while. I have alot of old christian rock. I still have them but I do not listen to them anymore because the songs no longer mean anything to me anymore.

RE: Should I Delete Christian Music?
Most Christian music is pretty awful, once you're exposed to the broader world of "secular music" (or "the Devil's music"), as my family called the stuff I wasn't allowed to listen to, growing up. So, being a lyrics man, and in honor of the wonderful world I discovered after a friend sneaked me a copy of G'n'F'n'R's Appetite for Destruction, I post a song I love:

"Judith" (A Perfect Circle)

You're such an inspiration for the ways
That I will never ever choose to be
Oh so many ways for me to show you
How the savior has abandoned you
Fuck your God
Your Lord and your Christ
He did this
Took all you had and
Left you this way
Still you pray, you never stray
Never taste of the fruit
You never thought to question why

It's not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side
Praise the one who left you
Broken down and paralyzed
He did it all for you
He did it all for you

Oh so many many ways for me to show you
How your dogma has abandoned you
Pray to your Christ, to your god
Never taste of the fruit
Never stray, never break
Never---choke on a lie
Even though he's the one who did this to you
You never thought to question why

Not like you killed someone
It's Not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side
Talk to Jesus Christ
As if he knows the reasons why
He did it all for you
Did it all for you
He did it all for you..

"Theology made no provision for evolution. The biblical authors had missed the most important revelation of all! Could it be that they were not really privy to the thoughts of God?" - E. O. Wilson

You're a thoughtful person. You deserve thoughtful music. If you have to ask yourself if you should save it, you shouldn't -- compelling music tells you what you should do.
