Should there be a time limit for threads.
Just wondering. It is weird when necro-threads are brought back to life. So should there be a time limit. Maybe 2 months of no reply and the thread will automatically close? Just an idea.

No.

There is nothing inherently wrong with thread resurrection.

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.

RE: Should there be a time limit for threads.
I don't think there should be. Over at AF they have (or used to, I don't know if they still do or not) a limit of 30 days (or something like that) for each thread; if nothing was posted in 30 days the thread was closed, or they made it clear you shouldn't post in it if it was old. I found that really annoying. Why not just keep recycling and reusing a thread, instead of making newer versions of them once the prior thread is "too old"? After a while a lot of same topic threads would pile up.

There seems to be a tendency of that happening anyway. I have seen many threads as re-do of the same subject. If that is the case important threads should not be subjected to this rule, as there is a reason they are important.

Removing old threads would keep new people from finding things that are of interest to them.

Also...we have the occasional update of things from the past.

Sometimes a thread is remembered and resurrected and people have fun with it...one that comes to mind that I haven't seen in a while is the word association thread. It comes and goes.

Is that an important thread?

I think the biggest problem would be that I'm probably the worst person for necroing threads and I can open closed threads anyway. Evil_monster

Best and worst of Ferdinand .....
Best
Ferdinand: We don't really say 'theist' in Alabama. Here, you're either a Christian, or you're from Afghanistan and we fucking hate you.
Worst
Ferdinand: Everyone from British is so, like, fucking retarded.

People here enjoy it. That makes it important. If it's not important to you, don't open it.

Oh I mean not to me, I mean like the threads that are labeled important. If this is the case we should then extend the span on how long it takes before a thread is closed.
