RE: Show your Human side, tell us what you like
Have you all seen how many of us said to love animals and nature? And those religious types call us demons with no souls...

For the record I also love animals and nature. But I was talking to a YEC the other day who insisted that chickens were placed on Earth for the sole purpose of being eaten by humans. And I think that it's fair to say he probably has the idea that all animals are placed to fulfill whatever needs humans have. It was a depressing day.

I love learning. About anything and everything. But mostly about languages, history (especially biographies), psychology/neuroscience, and (perversely) religion. I am fascinated by things that I don't understand and I always want to learn more. My ultimate dream job would be to teach literature (including religious writings) from a historical perspective ^.^ Which I will be able to do after I finish about 6 more years of university Tongue

I also love my partner; he is my best friend and companion. I love my family and my family's dogs (we have none of our own because we live in an apartment Sad). One day we will get a dog (or two, or more Tongue) because I cannot imagine living my life without an animal companion.

I love the mountains. I love snow Big Grin Fresh, powdery snow that I can ski in! There's an amazing sensation you get (probably just adrenaline lol) when you're flying down the side of a mountain almost out of control with snow-covered pines on either side of you... Big Grin That being said, I also enjoy hot days beside a cool, clear lake, river, or even creek where I can cool off, swim, and play fetch with my parents' lab ^.^

I also love to bake! I try to bake healthily, and I am a major nutrition/ health nut (but not a vegetarian or vegan... I cannot give up seafood!!!!). I love how I feel after a good work-out, especially if that work-out consists of beating a punching bag or practising karate.

That just goes to show what a different attitude beliefs can give you. We keep chickens. Our egg layers are not only giving us food, but companionship. We have some that will walk right up to you, jump into your lap, and settle in for a good back scratching and a nap. A person who saw a chicken as nothing but food would never experience that. Even our meat chickens get fed treats by hand every day. While they are alive they are treated like any other living thing on our farm. With love affection and respect. How could we do that if we saw them as nothing but food?
Heartless atheists. Yeah right.

Also, next time you talk to your YEC friend, ask him why god did such a piss poor job of providing us with chickens. I'd bet money he's never eaten a red jungle fowl. Probably because there's hardly enough meat on them to feed a single person. Red jungle fowl are the ancestors of all domestic chickens. It took humans to breed chickens into what we know them as today. So remind him that next time he eats at KFC, he's not eating what god provided, he's eating what science provided.

.....sorry. Happy thread.

I love many things. I love Video games, Movies, Reading, Hanging out with friends, and so on.

My favorite Video games are the Mass Effect series, Halo series, Call of Duty 4, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead series, Portal 2, Assassins Creed 1+2, and many more. I love so many movies that I will not be able to name them all but I love the Resident Evil movies, the ... of the dead series, Inglorious Basterds, the Hangover, Jackass movies, the Hurt Locker, Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland, Aliens, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and of course Monty Python's Life of Brian. Books I love include, the entire Harry Potter series, Jurassic Park, The Shining, All Dan Brown books, and lastly God is not Great.

I also love looking outside and seeing the sun shining and NO clouds, I love going to school and just having fun with no homework, I love the days when my friends and I can just chill out and sit around and listen to music.

But overall I feel that the most important thing for me is my music, I love almost all forms of music, excluding Pop, country, and most rap. My favorite genre of music is Metal, I love over 14 genres of metal alone, and I find more everyday. I also enjoy Jazz, classic rock, Newer rock, Hard rock, Classical music, Blues, and many more.

What I like most in this world is knowledge. I am obsessed in the pursuit of it. I want to understand everything, even though I know that is impossible.

I love science and I love discovery.

I love freedom and I love to laugh.

I like the world, even if I don't always care much for the people in it.

I love music, even when it challenges me.

I love movies, even when I need to disengage my brain to do so. I love movies that allow me to keep the brain on even more.

I love my wife and my dog and my 2 cats. I even love our crappy house.

I love video games and books.

And I love this site, despite only having recently happened upon it.

For God so loved the world that he arranged for everyone to both have free will and to suffer the terrible consequences of making the wrong choice. Kind of a dick move, God.

RE: Show your Human side, tell us what you like
I like cycling and I live for the warm weather. Typically this time of year I'm back into full training mode and by now I'd be out doing 25 - 30 miles on the weekend and building up to the 50 and 60 mile rides for later in the summer. Unfortunately, I did something to my back the end of last summer which may make me even hitting 20 miles on the bike this year difficult. Even after 5 weeks of PT the most I've managed to do is 12. I'm really miserable about it too. Where I live it does not take long to get into some pretty rural areas and I can spend hours out on my bike just letting all my problems go. I usually ride alone but will from time to time ride with other people. It just keeps me sane. If I can't really do it this summer, I'm going to be miserable.

Other than that, I don't have many hobbies any more. I simply do not have time. I'm an avid reader, mostly of non-fiction but don't have as much time to even do that.

I have 2 sons, aged 8 and 10 and they consume a lot of my time.

I also love baseball and this being baseball season, I'm spending a lot of nights watching. I buy the package so after my Mets fall out of contention I can continue to watch good teams.

I'm also very partial to sex and drinking and fit as much time as I can for both activities. Really depends on how cooperative my wife is feeling.

Shackle their minds when they're bent on the cross
When ignorance reigns, life is lost

Sure, no problem in moving it, no one is going to make a thing out of it is it? so go ahead, freethinking life sounds entartaining. Big Grin

I think this is a great idea for a thread. To help us kick start the new forum section, would you mid if I moved this to "Freethinking Life"? It's intended to be a positive section, and something like this is perfect, since it's about what we like, and not necessarily about atheism. Up to you though.

To tell the truth I was not expecting to get so popular with this thread, so:
Thanks to everyone for sharing your likenings, by the way I love animals and nature too. XD

I like music. Especially the indie and post rock genres. I love playing my guitar and singing. I like baseball, I played second base for the entire thirteen years I played baseball. I enjoy snowboarding and photography. I also have a thing for street art, I don't do it, but I like to admire it.

i love opera .. other music too but opera always held a special place in my heart (maybe because of being 11 when i saw madama butterfly for the first time ..i cried my eyes out at the end and still hate pinkerton till now Tongue )

i'm an astrophysics lover ,too .. my idea of an ideal evening is the atronomical observatory with a good picnic basket and a telescope ... whenever there's meteor showers ,you can find me out there ..

i love animals and plants .. i got into several fights with my family over them wanting to get rid of the garden to extend the ceremony room .. i still yell at them "OVER MY DEAD BODY" now and then .. i mean ,come on ,i have a citrus tree just in front of my room and roses in there .. give the poor plants a break ,let them live ..

i love learning ... lots and lots of unrelated things ,too .. from music to aeronautics .. anything that can help me understand the nature of the universe and help me retain my sense of wonder ... i am very much a child when it comes to learning ,i start without preconceptions ..

i am a graphic designer who's specialised in environment concept art ... what else to say ?
