Simple Swim tips.
Over the past few years I have tried to teach myself to swim.
I think a strong psychological barrier is stopping me.
I almost drowned as a kid.
Read lots of books re technique etc, to no avail.
Physically I am strong for my age and reasonably flexible.
I tend to panic re breathing and getting into deeper water.
Can swim underwater till my breath runs out.
Tried a few lessons, they didn't work.
I find kicking difficult, despite strong legsHuh

Any advice will be appreciated>

Have you ever been able to float on your back?

But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

I'll take that as a no. That's the first step. If you can completely relax and keep your body laid out, you'll find that you will float. Try it in shallow water so that there will be no fear of drowning should you start to sink. The trick is to try to keep your chest pointed straight towards the sky. The water will come up to your ears and above them, it will seem as though your face will go below the surface, but if you can relax and let the water hold you, you will float. Chest up, remember that.

The trick to swimming well is to realize and utilize your body's natural buoyancy. Once you are comfortable floating without effort on your back, you can learn how with minimal effort you can stay afloat when not in that position.

But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

If you're strong for your age, it sounds like you don't have enough body fat, gotta get that floaty fat boost. I was a scrawny little kid and it took me forever to try to learn to swim because everything I would do would still not be enough to keep me afloat.

I have actually taught several people to swim....

The easiest way for you to learn is with diving fins. You can learn the basics - with the advantage of getting massive thrust from your legs - where you have the most muscle.

After a while - you can learn to keep yourself up using just your arms...... Once you get to that point - you'll be able to ditch the fins...

And just like SCUBA -- have a buddy who can help you out..... Solo isn't a great idea...

The difference between prayer and masturbation - is when a guy is through masturbating - he has something to show for his efforts.
